Seized Document Appeals for Al-Qaida' Help to Cause War Among Iraqi Muslim
BAGHDAD, Iraq (AP) - An anti-American operative in Iraq appealed for help from al-Qaida leaders to help spark a sectarian war between Shiite and Sunni Muslims in an effort to "tear the country apart," U.S. officials said Monday.
The officials confirmed a report Monday in The New York Times about the alleged plan, which was outlined in a 17-page letter that U.S. forces confiscated from an al-Qaida suspect in Iraq.

"We believe the report and document are credible. We take the report seriously," Brig. Gen. Mark Kimmitt, deputy chief of operations, told a news conference. He said the letter would be made public later

Edited on Mon Feb-09-04 11:56 AM by Dhalgren
but I don't believe anything these assholes say. This, in my opinion, is Bullshit. Next they will find Osama with kidnapped, little white girls - this is all for domestic consumption, period.

2. No credibility left.
They have "cried wolf" too many times. Why should anyone believe anything they say?

was to start a civil war between the Sunnis and the Shiites. Who knows?

15. Perfect timing from the Chimp Admin., again.
Just when they could use a document to bolster their bullshit, they get it.

Surely you see that, no? Nobody in with any sense would believe a single thing that comes out of their collective pie hole.

7. I'm glad we intercepted that letter
...before Al-Qaida leaders got the message.

Oh, wait, we've broadcast it all over the world on CNN. :eyes:

If it's bogus, for a change I'll be happy about it.

10. From AP: Letter: Bin Laden Has Recruiting Problems
"BAGHDAD, Iraq - A letter seized from an al-Qaida courier shows Osama bin Laden (news - web sites) has made little headway in recruiting Iraqis for a holy war against America, raising questions about the Bush administration's contention that Iraq is the central front in the war on terror. "

This could be one good thing that comes out of this.

16. If true
This further illustrates that the illegal invasion of Iraq has
expanded the reach of Al Q. That wasn't the case before the invasion.
The Occupation of Iraq has inflamed the people of the region and more of them are being radicalized. Isn't that the opposite of what the US Govt. is spozed to be doing?

17. al-Qaida suspect in Iraq.
Was he wearing the al-qaida uniform and dog tags, decoder ring and carrying the laminated membership card?

Must have been, since this is being reported with all the surety of 9/11.

He had the 19 page letter on him, probably written by the same psyops nitwit who wrote the "letters to home" last Christmas.

Perhaps someday all this will be over, and once and a while we will be able to have faith in what is reported.

Edited on Mon Feb-09-04 10:53 PM by Djinn
to whom do you address an appeal to Al Qaeda leaders, it's not like there's a membership and office bearers page on a handy webpage to refer to.

also what exactly is an "anti-american operatice"

also - this civil war WILL happen without any help from Al Qaeda, anyone with the most passing knowledge of Iraq's history could tell you that (which I suppose does count out Bush et al) this may just be the Bushists getting in first with a lie for when the shit hits the fan

Interviewer: Mr Bush, after we jettisoned the WMD excuse you moved on to "a better life for Iraqi's" as the justification for Gulf War 2, how do you reconcile that desire with the massive civil war currently engulfing that country

Bush: it's not us it's the terr-ists, they started it

19. Even if it is true....
there is absolutely no surprise here, going
into Iraq was going to stir up a hornets nest
of anger in the Muslim world. Now the AWOL
regime acts like it is shocked that they have
enemies trying to undermine everything they
do.

Oh please....this WH is so unsophisticated and
they take us for idiots. People want secure,
living wage jobs and their sons and daughters
out of Iraq. We are tired of being manipulated
and used for enriching the wealthy friends of
AWOL.
