Media Discrimination Against Dennis Kucinich

Just under two hours ago, this e-mail went out to everyone on the Kucinich Campaign's mailing list, and just as I typed the header for this post, CNN made their first mention of Kucinich's strong third place finish in Maine! Since DK also finished third in Washington state, they're a little slow but are perhaps now getting the message.

Kudos to DK's new Press Secretary!

Mods: This is qualified for LBN as a news release containing information about a Media Tenor study of media's coverage of Democratic campaigns.
Thank you.

From">"Will Pitt, Kucinich Press Secretary" <talkback@kucinich.us>

Subject  Fair Coverage for Kucinich

Tell CNN You Want Fair Coverage For Kucinich

Dennis Kucinich has finished both the Washington and Maine caucuses
ahead of candidates John Edwards, Wesley Clark and Al Sharpton. This
represents the strongest back-to-back showing of his campaign to date.
One would think that such a clear surge would require coverage from
the national media. One would be wrong.

On the evening of February 8th, as Dennis Kucinich was running strong
in Maine, and a day after defeating Edwards, Clark and Sharpton in
Washington, CNN put out a report on the Maine caucuses. In this report,
CNN stated that, "Dean, struggling to revive his once-promising campaign,
was the only candidate who campaigned in the state Sunday, making stops
in six cities."; The facts fully dispute CNN's version of events.

Dennis Kucinich spoke at the Bangor Civic Center caucus site which was
filled with television cameras, as well as caucus sites in Lewiston,
Auburn, Portland and Westbrook. Clearly, Howard Dean was not the only
candidate in Maine on February 8th.

The behavior of CNN is not unique. The international media watchdog
group Media Tenor, after performing an exhaustive review, determined
that the nightly half-hour national news broadcasts from ABC, CBS and
NBC devoted exactly 0.94% of their coverage to the Kucinich campaign.

Dennis Kucinich has begun a strong surge in the race for the Democratic
nomination. He is in this race to the end. The time has come for the national
media to get wise to this, and at a minimum, to begin reporting basic facts
with accuracy and integrity.

Encourage CNN to give Dennis fair coverage. Write CNN at
http://www.cnn.com/feedback/ or call 404-827-0234.

10. I almost jumped out of my chair when they aired it

as I was typing the header!

Will they do a big story on Dennis for his surprising finish in Maine? Will they discuss his platform and its appeal to voters? Will pigs fly?

9. I love that photo, twilight! Where did you get it?

I've never seen it at DK's site -- did you add the text yourself ? I've seen it once before, probably in another post from you, and even without the text it shows DK's marginalization all too clearly, and *very* humorously.

11. I will be supporting Dennis to the end.
I think we should be writing all the media (ABC, CBS, NBC, etc.) complaining about this lack of coverage for Dennis Kucinich.

I think the media is ignoring Dennis for the same reason they are destroying Dean's chances at the White House. I think they are very organized against any candidate that they think may push to regulate the media.

What troubles me is how they are swaying the public toward any candidate they choose to push. They have always done this, but it is more obvious in this election.

14. The media is ignoring DK for two reasons
* One, he hasn't won anything. This has become a horse race and winners get coverage. Losers get passed over.
* Two, no one -- pundits, media, politicos, nobody -- really believes DK has a snowball's chance in hell. Resources always being thin, he doesn't get the lion's share.
