Gaddafi Son Denies Arms Move Linked to Iraq War

PARIS (Reuters) - Libya's decision to abandon banned weapons programs had nothing to do with the U.S. military intervention in Iraq (news - web sites), the son of Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi (news - web sites) told the Le Monde daily newspaper.

In his state of the union address last month, President Bush (news - web sites) suggested the Iraq war had been a factor in Libya's decision to give up weapons of mass destruction, something Gaddafi's son, Saif al-Islam Gaddafi, rejected.

"President Bush cannot say that," Saif al-Islam Gaddafi was quoted as telling Le Monde in its edition dated Wednesday.

"He knows very well that that is not true. We understand his pre-election concerns, his problems with public opinion, Congress and the media," he said.

Of course, we knew that whole thing was another creative rationalization to shove into the American citizen's ear.

4. This IS Clintons fault ...
The work in Libia started long before AWOL took office. If anything the right thing to say is "Despite the efforts of the bush* administration, Libia has decided to abandon its WMD programs(s)". This is what I call the Reagan effect.

The right believes that Reagan defeated communism. Most intelligent people know that Communism fell under its own weight. Reagans idiotic rhetoric prolonged this collapse by supplying the Russians with resolve. Communism would have fallen long before it did (perhaps in Carters second term).

Cheers
Drifter
