BBCi: Bush and Cheney top aides testify

Senior aides to the US president and vice-president have been called before an inquiry into the leak of a CIA agent's name, according to reports.
Karl Rove, George W Bush's special adviser, and Lewis Libby who is Dick Cheney's chief of staff testified to a grand jury, the Washington Post said.

Two of Mr Bush's press officials have also appeared at the inquiry recently.

The investigation was ordered into the leak of the name of Valerie Plame who worked for the US spy agency.

A newspaper columnist revealed her name last summer, saying White House officials had given him the information about Ms Plame, whose husband Joseph Wilson has criticised the White House.

A deliberate leak of an undercover agent's name would be illegal.

6. Testimony under Oath???

Does anyone know if they took an oath before they testified....if not, they can lie their .... off and not be held responsible for their actions. Doesn't this all appear like a staged event to satisfy the voters, much like Dubya's AWOL status. Everyone in the Clinton administration from Bill, Hillary down to their immediate childhood friends were required to take an oath prior to giving testimony!!!!

ASHINGTON, Feb. 9 — President Bush's press secretary and a former White House press aide testified on Friday to a federal grand jury investigating who improperly disclosed the identity of a C.I.A. officer, the press secretary and a lawyer for the aide said on Monday.

The appearances of the press secretary, Scott McClellan, and the press aide, Adam Levine, reflected what lawyers in the case said was the quickening pace of a criminal inquiry in which a special prosecutor is examining conversations between journalists and the White House.

When he was asked by reporters on Monday whether he had been questioned in the case, Mr. McClellan said he had been filmed by news organizations as he emerged from the federal courthouse. "I think that confirms it for you," he said.

Joe Wilson mentioned Rove's name shortly after this scandal broke and said one of the journalists fingered him in particular. Also, didn't Tweety mention a call from Rove who said Plame was "fair game?"
