Muslim girl killed by Russian racists

A nine-year-old Muslim girl was stabbed to death and her cousin seriously wounded in an attack in broad daylight in the centre of Russia's second city Saint Petersburg.

Alabir Sultanov bled to death almost immediately despite the best efforts of her father to fend off a dozen young men armed with baseball bats, metal chains and knives, police said on Tuesday.

Her father, Yusuf, and her 11-year-old cousin, Khursheda also sustained severe injuries during the unprovoked beating – perhaps caused by their Tajik appearance.

Racist attacks occur regularly in Saint Petersburg, Moscow and other large Russian cities - usually targeting Muslim students and migrants from the Central Asia and the Caucasus region.

The kind of rascist shit the Russian government has been coming out with over the past two years has been appalling. There are rascist attacks weekly in Moscow and other cities, mainly against Caucasians, but also against other ethnic groups.

I read about the item you posted and it really was sickening. From personal experience I know that Tajiks are looked upon by most Russians as subhuman. They are the easiest of targets to prey upon because they have no police backing (i.e., cash for protection), and they normally livequite a nomadic existence in the cities, moving from one neighbourhood to the next.

I didn't know muslims were a race, any more than christians are a race. They may hate muslims, which i don't condone, but it doesn't mean they are racist per se.

I was just saying that the original wording of the al Jazerah headline is technically correct, because the girl was Tajik (Asian), and her attackers were Russian (White).

Additionally, she was Muslim, and presumeably her attackers were Christian.

And she spoke an Indo-Europoean language of the Indo-Iranian branch (Tajik), and her attackers speak an Indo-European language of the Balto-Slavic branch (Russian).

But you're right hate is hate and murder is murder, and this would be just as tragic if the categories listed above were uniform for the victom and her attackers.
