Palin suggests Chronicle withheld Obama remarks(verdict, NOT TRUE)
Source: SFChronicle

(11-02) 20:33 PST -- Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, in a campaign appearance Sunday, criticized comments about coal technology that Sen. Barack Obama made to The Chronicle editorial board in January, and suggested that the newspaper withheld the information from the public - even though the interview has been posted on the newspaper's Web site since it was given.

At a rally in Ohio, Palin, the Republican vice presidential nominee, used the taped remarks to attack Obama's energy policy.

"Barack Obama explained his plan to The San Francisco Chronicle this year," she said. "And he said that, sure, if the industry wants to build coal-fired power plants, then they can go ahead and try, he says. But they can do it only in a way that will bankrupt the coal industry.

"You gotta listen to the tape," she continued. "Why is this audio tape just now surfacing?"

Voices in the crowd could be heard shouting, "Liberal media!"

1. I'm afraid this is going to cut us down.
All of these older voters on fixed incomes hear this and wonder how to pay the bills when the energy costs skyrocket.. The vote with their wallets and our guy needs to address this right away. I just hope it's not too late.

FACT is, that tape has been in the public domain for almost a year.

FACT is, Palin's an idiot and a liar, and 60% of Americans realize it.

7. Gandma's and Grandpas don't hear about anything till it's said by someone on tv
I know she's not worth a crap, but I'm talking about the older people on fixed incomes and those that don't educate themselves, just waiting on others to spoon feed them information... These people hear this and don't hear enough people say that McCain supports the same thing and I'm afraid we may lose some votes. JMO

they are just about to cover it. Will be interesting to see what the spin is, but it'll be up next. And for the record, most grandmas and grandpas I know are very well read so you might be worrying about nothing. :hi:

13. They're no dumber than anyone else predisposed to vote for McSame.
The only way Republicans can come close to winning elections is to sow hatred and division with lies.

18. You really think that
it's going to make that much of a difference in the next 36 hours? That this is going to get enough traction to erode a 100+ electoral vote advantage (per: electoral-vote.com and fivethirtyeight.com )? Even if true and this were Earth-shaking news, it would still take several days to make a serious difference.

darken our door for the next 48 hours.

21. My "insight" comes from living in red state hell.
It's not fun and it makes me crazy with paranoia. I've lost my former best friend of 6 yrs and I haven't spoken to my brother in 2 months because he was so sure he could turn me and "make me see the light". Living in a red state makes you think nothing will ever be right again and the world is totally psycho. It really feels like McCain could win when that's all I hear. The racism and hate in this town is spread thicker than buttercream icing on a Wal-mart birthday cake.

28. We don't have an Obama office, and..
The democratic office won't even put up his signs in the window. I'm seriously telling you this is a white county that had a sign up in the old days at the train station to make sure black folks didn't hang around for long and my kids go to the only school in the county that has a few blacks <50 or 60 tops> attending now. My neighbor across the road regularly straps a confederate flag to the back of a 4 wheeler and runs up and down the road. We just stay to ourselves. I don't really know how our family kept from being like that other than the fact that we just were raised with good values.
Coming here is keeping me sane right now

29. i double feel for you
stay strong. i think a lot of people will relax when they see what a good president he is, and his being a good president will go a long way toward ending racism. not that it will end, not in our lifetimes of course, but it will be evolutionary in that respect. by the next election, who knows, you may have neighbors putting obama signs in their yards.
love, pollyanna :)

30. Yeah. They're already shutting down campaign offices
and here in Missouri, Obama's legal team is looking for ways to remove his name from the ballot since the situation is so hopeless.

Good thing Palin' isn't addressing a security issue without bothering to verify it first.

20. that bitch knows that this story has been out for months now
She's a political whorehouse madame and pusher.

That's why she's lying about what is contained in the story--because she knows that her base won't read. They won't fire up their computer and go on the internet to google the story. They won't go to the website of the newspaper and listen to the entire interview. They're the same idiots who mainlined fear for the last 8 years and they're in the throes of the DT's, jonsing for their fix--and she is their pusher. She is happy to push the drug of fear for them. They will gladly get down on their knees and suck on the big dicque of fear in exchange for their vote.

8. Palin, as usual, is distorting the truth of what was actually said:
Obama stated that the coal industry would be bankrupt because of the large sum they will be charged for emitting great amounts of greenhouse gases.
He added, that if we can discover a way to use coal cleanly, then we should pursue that avenue.

Palin, and 'her' campaign, are the queen and court of distortion and I guess that's the way they wants to play the game. But, there is a new era in politics. No more "silly season", and no more lies from queens like Palin without millions researching the truth on their trusty computer.

I hope the media straightens this out, for the record and to show the sheer desperation of the right- wing, lying, hypocritical thug-like brainwashed zombies.

PS. Sarah, I'd really like to see those medical records.

22. True, but was it highlighted in the writeup is the question
It is true that the audio has been out there for a looong time and it is also true that the RNC/Mccain campaign have no excuse to cry foul in the last minute, but it does beg the question though on whether SF Chronicle was open enough to state Obama's comments regarding bankrupting coal mines in the transcript.

On the other hand, I do think that the comments will be a drag on any last minute swing towards Obama. What was he thinking when he made such a comment? Granted he is intelligent and granted he didn't really mean that they would bankrupt existing coal mines, but couldn't he have been a bit more clearer in what he meant?
