Senate committee approves amendment banning gay marriage

By ERNIE SUGGS
Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Published on: 02/11/04

The Senate Rules Committee today approved and sent to the full Senate a proposed change to the state constitution that would make it illegal for gay couples to marry in Georgia.

After nearly two hours of passionate testimony, from activists for and against the amendment that would define marriage as a union between men and women, the committee took about 30 seconds to vote in favor of the measure.

The only dissenting voice was Sen. Nadine Thomas (D-Decatur), who not only voted against the amendment but also blasted speakers for trying to "justify discrimination."

1. Why don't they just open the concentration camps now?
Once they see that none of this actually ends gay marriages they will resort to putting gays into camps that try to "change" them into heterosexuals.

2. Sodomy is also illegal in Ga. so let's get this straight if you
commit sodomy or get married as a gay couple they will send you to prison where you will be sodomized. Good republican logic.

3. Sodomy is legal everywhere in the US
Edited on Wed Feb-11-04 10:53 PM by DinoBoy
The SCOTUS ruled that last summer I think, although many states may have the laws still on the books. Even before the SCOTUS ruling, the laws were rarely, if ever, enforced.

4. "A sinner I can take, but a hypocrite, I can't"
Hats off to Senator Nadine Thomas, the ONLY dissenting voice.

"From what I see here, this is nothing but a way to erode the constitution," Thomas said. "And you come here and bring it in the name of God. This is discrimination, bottom line. A sinner I can take, but a hypocrite, I can't."
