Iraq-bound Beau Biden, Delaware's attorney general, has ruled out taking any current appointment to the U.S. Senate seat now held by his father, Vice President-elect Joe Biden, adding to speculation about who will replace the senior Biden.
"I will be fulfilling my military orders," Biden said in an e-mail note sent late Monday, as he prepared to deploy overseas with the 261st Signal Brigade of the Delaware Army National Guard "I have not sought and will not accept an appointment to the United States Senate; and look forward to returning to my work as attorney general of the state of Delaware."

"Vice President-elect Biden is consulting with leaders in Delaware and will make an announcement on his plans soon," said Elizabeth Alexander, spokesperson for the vice president-elect.

2. I am relieved Biden will not be "handing off" his senate seat to his son.
Beau would probably be a fine senator, but this "keeping it in the family" trend is bothersome.

3. I agree but, it's clear Beau Biden is intelligent enough to deserve the position
A part of me applauds his decision to fulfill his obligation
but the Mother in me would rather he stayed home and took the job if offered

4. I agree with you two. These are not hereditary seats.
If he is truly qualified, let him finish his tour of duty and run on his own. If he's good enough to convinve the electorate, so be it. It sounds like he has a good solid sense of duty.

I'm sure his mother agrees with you (at least secretly, if not publicly). :)
