Giants receiver Plaxico Burress accidentally shoots himself in the leg
Source: NY Daily News

Talented but troubled Giants wideout Plaxico Burress, adding to his litany of off-field woes, accidentally shot himself in the leg on Friday night, a source told the Daily News on Saturday.

Burress, 31, spent the night at a Manhattan hospital with the self-inflicted wound, according to the source. The injury was described only as non-life-threatening, and details of the accident remained sketchy.

Burress' erratic antics already cost him $204,000 in fines this year. He was suspended for one game after going AWOL and benched for the first quarter of another game after skipping medical treatment.

Among his fines was a $45,000 penalty imposed by the NFL for verbally abusing an official.

4. What gun law violations might he be facing
As I understand it NYC basically outlawed guns unless you can go way out of your way to prove need (mostly professional/security related) this is AS I UNDERSTAND IT this could be wrong.

We'll see. Plexico (Va. Beach native) may have more problems than just ...um...shooting himself in the leg.

62. That's what's going to happen--he'll skate like Nancy Kerrigan
Edited on Tue Dec-02-08 06:30 AM by rocknation
because he'll be able to prove that while his actions may have been illegal, his "intentions" were strictly honorable.

The jury will "understand" why he carries a gun--he's a celebrity in constant danger of being robbed, not a common criminal who is looking TO rob. And his gun discharged as a result of his grabbing it when it fell from his waistband, not from deliberately pointing it at someone and firing. He'll get to plea to a misdemeanor, and off he'll go to his next screwup.

You know what, I'm gonna give him a pass on this. He's a dumbass sure...but he caught the pass that beat the Cheatriots so he's been alright with me ever since. That was the most excited I have ever been after a win that didn't involve the Steelers. So Plax can shoot himself all he wants, but he helped beat the "best team ever." For that I'll always be grateful.

Edited on Sun Nov-30-08 08:27 PM by JonLP24
He wasn't happy about his role on the team and the fact he only had 3 passes against the New England Patriots in the AFC Championship game which was the last game of his Steelers career. He announced his intentions to leave Pittsburgh then later signed with the Giants which is what unrestricted free agents do all the time.

on edit:Subject line, I didn't want to make sure I was absolutely right but I follow football pretty closely especially Burress after learning he played many games his rookie season with a fractured leg.

27. The attitude is "so what??"
if he can catch a football, run like hell and score we'll pay his price and do what we need to do to keep the league from booting him which would affect our TV revenue and playoff revenue which will only upset our team owners because they're not getting their return on their investment they expected. So we'll sell a bag of shit like it's a bouquet of roses just so long as he continues to catch a football, run like hell and score.

it served mostly middle and upper-middle class neighborhoods. There were some public housing communities that fell under GRHS's service area but that area of Va. Beach wasn't inner city/ghetto by any means.

PLAXICO BURRESS COULD CATCH A FELONY RAP
By ANGELA MONTEFINISE
November 29, 2008

Gridiron gunslinger Plaxico Burress Plaxico Burress could get flagged with a felony for allegedly toting a loaded gun into a club Friday night.

Records show the Giants New York Giants ' star receiver does not have a permit to carry a weapon in the city, meaning that he had no legal right to do so in the LQ Club in Manhattan, where he allegedly shot himself in the leg.

"New York has the most restrictive pistol-licensing system in the United States," said Thomas King, president of the New York Rifle and Pistol Association. "It recognizes absolutely no out-of-state permits. An out-of-stater never has the authority to carry ."

Criminal possession of a loaded weapon is a felony in New York, punishable by up to a year in prison.

Fortunately, Plaxico was armed! That fact obviously served as a deterrent to the shooter: if Plaxico hadn't been armed, the shooting could have gotten out of control. Who knows then how many victims there would have been?

I think that covers the necessary ground
