Nestle water ads misleading
Source: Reuters

TORONTO (Reuters) - Canadian environmental groups have filed a misleading advertising complaint against Nestle disputing claims in an ad by the world's largest food company that its bottled water has numerous ecological benefits.

A group comprising Friends of the Earth Canada, the Polaris Institute, the Council of Canadians, Wellington Water Watchers and Ecojustice said Nestle Waters Canada contravened the Canadian Code of Advertising Standards "by making false and misleading statements regarding the environmental impacts of its product" in full-page newspaper ad in October.

"They can spin the bottle all they want, but the truth is there is no green solution to bottled water," said Joe Cressy, Campaigns Coordinator, for the Polaris Institute, in Ottawa.

The groups also allege the ad -- which said "most water bottles avoid landfill sites and are recycled"; "bottled water is the most environmentally responsible consumer product in the world"; and "Nestle Pure Life is a Healthy, Eco-Friendly Choice" -- is contrary to guidelines that have been set by Canada.

. . .

"This is part of a bigger problem of what we call 'green washing,'" Wilkins said. "This is that producers are saying that they are doing things in an environmentally sensitive manner when the facts don't support it."

5. I was going to buy a Britta filter, but their commercials are just too annoying
You know the ones where they use recording of someone pissing into a lab beaker to use as their "pouring water" sound. It sounds like fingernails on a chalkboard to me.

Actually I already own a water filter, but the commercials still get on my nerves.

Fire your sound guy Britta.

7. Agreed - but I haven't knowingly bought anything from Nestle in over 20 years
They are still pushing formula in hospitals in impoverished nations with questionable water supplies with the deception that it is healthier than breast milk.

But yeah, buying bottled water is pretty dumb - unless it is "distilled" and you have a need for that.

6. i have an Aquafina bottle
I bought at the mall from a vending machine about 2 months ago.. i was thirsty, I had $2, and it was there. Since then - I just refill it from the tap.. put the lid on it.. and head out of the house.

Now THAT is eco friendly.

1 bottle.. 60+ uses.

10. Fraud has become "The American Way"
See what a hospital in East Tennessee advertises in comparison to what they really are. A simple three day procedure turned into a ten month long nightmare. http://www.wisecountyissues.com Apparently it's okay to say anything you want in an advertisement concerning health irregardless of restraining a man who was clearly going into shock and was warned to watch for a bleed. In one of their ads it talks about how their post surgical patients have less bleeding, fewer complications, go home sooner and experience less infection. This surgical patient laid and bled out for fifteen hours ! It's also called the ACCEPTABLE STANDARDS OF HEALTH CARE in East Tennessee.

11. I have a Berkey filter
the stainless steel model. The filter system is expensive, about $250-300, but it can pretty much filter anything up to radioactive urine.

<http://www.berkeyfilters.com/>

And I also use the plastic water bottles for months at a time, with 8-9 in my fridge.
