Bush: war in Iraq on its way to being won
Edited on Sat Dec-06-08 10:45 AM by Mark E. Smith
Source: Associated Press

WASHINGTON - President George W. Bush said Saturday the U.S.-
Iraqi security pact approved this week calls for 150,000 American
troops to be withdrawn from Iraq in two stages - all by the end of
2011.

The first stage begins next year when U.S. troops pull back from
Baghdad and other Iraqi cities by the end of June, Bush said in his
weekly radio address. The new pact requires all U.S. troops to leave
the country of the end of 2001.

"Only a few years ago, such an agreement was unimaginable," Bush
said. "Chaos and violence were consuming Iraq. Terrorists were
seizing new ground and using violence to divide the Iraqi people
along sectarian lines. And the nation was nearing the point of
political collapse and civil war."

The agreement approved by Iraq's three-member presidential
council goes into effect next month - even though Iraqi voters will
have the final say in a referendum by the end of July. It replaces a
U.N. mandate that gives the U.S.-led coalition sweeping powers
to conduct military operations and detain people without charge
if they were believed to pose a security threat.

The lies Bush is peddling now are just astonishing in their scope.
Iraq votes to kick us out, and upon our departure the Shi'ite led
govt aligns with their co-religionists in Tehran. And thus, in
Bush-speak, the war we just won (sic) is confirmed for what it has
really been all along, the greatest strategic blunder is U.S. history.

2. He really thinks he can re-write history.
Edited on Sat Dec-06-08 10:58 AM by liberalmuse
But what he doesn't comprehend is there are way too many of us who will NEVER let the world forget what he did, and that we have very strong emotional imprints of his time in office that will not turn into warm fuzziness as the years pass by. We will tell our grandchildren, and our children will tell their grandchildren of the utter heinousness of Bush. He is fucked.

5. Oh, don't forget all the "classified" documents that get
declassified over time.

They can't destroy them all, they are both too stupid and too cocky to acomplish that.

And the tell all books that will be written, the confessions that will be told before folks die - to cleanse their souls- will cement the deal.

No PR group, no legacy commission, will be able to purge him of his stains.

The blood of millions is on his hands.

14. Antoher reality is that Iraq had absolutely NOTHING to do with 9/11
Edited on Sat Dec-06-08 01:03 PM by SpiralHawk
And there were no WMDs - that was a republicon manufactured lie told with the bent-knee complicity of corporate media.

But there was a lot of OIL - for republicon cronies to exploit and reap MASSIVE PROFIT.

Ptoooey on republicon 'nation building' and phony war...the dead US soldiers, and innocent Iraq civilians (thousands of children and women among them) will haunt the republicon homelander soul for eons...and rightly so.

18. That too. I have some major problems with going to Afghanistan and bombing and
occupying that country on the pretense of looking for one man and his organization.

9. Another euphemism - "decisively on its way to being won."
It joins:

"Stay the course"
"Mission accomplished"
"Light at the end of the tunnel"

. . . in the pantheon of idiot warrior aphorisms.

OP: "the greatest strategic blunder is U.S. history"

Not so. Iraq has been a huge success for Bush Co -- when you consider their REAL goals. They did what they wanted, reaped the benefits ($$$$$$) and will get away with their crimes.

They are very, very competent.

20. "light at the end of the tunnel", "turned the corner".
I defy any of these weasels to specify what it is that "we" have won in any terms less nebulous and coprophagic than "bringing democracy to the Middle East" and the like.
