Pakistani security forces have raided a suspected training camp used by Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), the militant group blamed for last month's attack on Mumbai, and arrested several of the group's activists, government officials said today.

One official told The Times that among those arrested was Zakiur Rehman Lakhvi, an LeT activist whom Indian officials have accused of masterminding the Mumbai attack.

The raid last night near Muzaffarabad, the capital of Pakistan-controlled Kashmir, was Pakistan's first attempt to respond to mounting pressure from India and the United States to take quick and decisive action against LeT and its affiliates.

Security officials refused to publicly confirm or deny the raid or the arrests. But government officials, speaking off the record, said that Pakistani troops raided a large compound belonging to Jamaat-ud-Dawa, the parent organization of LeT, about three miles outside Muzaffarabad. Local residents said army helicopters were also involved in the raid.

The war is just getting started in Afghanistan and I hope the day when mullah omar is boxed in and is finally ready to 'negotiate'. ;)

It's takes a hell of a lot of stuff to support combat troops, and the troops that support combat troops, and so on. I don't have any idea whether that is really "a lot". I do know that the logistics situation in Afghanistan sucks, and that that fact has been pointed out over and over, and that being the good guys doesn't buy you much when your logistics suck.

But you are right, that might have been part of some buildup, and now it's gone.

I could easily do with a world without Islamic fundies, or any sort of fundies, but I am smart enough to know that that is not up to me.

ISLAMABAD (AFP) – Pakistan said Tuesday it would
not hand over any suspects in the Mumbai bombings to
India, after authorities arrested 15 people in a raid
on an Islamic charity linked to a banned militant group.

India has repeatedly said that the hardline Lashkar-e-
Taiba organisation was behind last month's carnage in
Mumbai, which saw attackers go on a grenade and gun
spree in the city that left 172 people dead and more
than 300 wounded.

With tensions rising between the nuclear-armed
neighbours over the bloodshed, India had demanded that
Pakistan hand over militant suspects -- but Foreign
Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi said that was out of the
question.

"The arrests are being made for our own investigations.
Even if allegations are proved against any suspect, he
will not be handed over to India," the minister said. "We
will proceed against those arrested under Pakistani laws."
