(Louisiana) Man says he was beaten for wearing Obama shirt
Source: WAFB

SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) - A 32-year-old Shreveport man is now recovering at home after he says he was badly beaten at a west Shreveport gas station for wearing a Barack Obama t-shirt.

Kaylon Johnson says he now has a broken nose and eye socket after the brutal attack that he says was racially motivated and brought on by the t-shirt. "They were screaming "f" Obama, f***. Obama something about a n**** president, basically you know I was hit."

This all happened Saturday night around 11:30 at the Citgo on Industrial Drive off of I-20. He says he had already pumped gas and was walking out of the store with a drink when he was attacked. "Seem like some red necks, they're pretty big guys and they were blasting music or whatever, mean by the time I turned around and looked at him they were on me." Johnson says all he remembers after that was hitting his car door.

Johnson has been heavily involved in the Obama campaign and has even opened up a store on North Market where he sells Obama shirts. He says the beating will not distract him. "Things go on every day and all this seems is it shows that we do have purpose throughout the campaign and we still have work to do after the campaign."

...

Shreveport police say they are investigating and the FBI may also get involved to determine if this is a hate crime.

1. It is amazing how very hateful and hurtful people can be. I hope this
poor man recovers swiftly and can get some justice.

2. amazing how they use the "says he was" qualifier, yet for backwards B girl
it was reported initially as fact, no qualifiers.... at least that's what I seem to remember.

20. and that was "one large black man" ... this was a group ...
apparently we lefties, the "cowardly lot", are rather brave, and yet the "brave and tough" freeper types have to go in packs ...

3. That dude's pretty beat up
Now one has to wonder if he is telling the truth. Sorry folks, remember that young woman in Pittsburgh who claimed she was beaten by an African-American who supported Obama? Anyway, if he is telling the truth, let's hope the people who did it are brought to justice.

15. I doubt he did this to himself.
So why does one "have to wonder?"

4. My husband was from a little town outside Shreveport
Edited on Tue Dec-09-08 11:34 AM by notadmblnd
After the stories he told me about growing up there, I would never travel south with him. I felt that it wouldn't have been prudent for either of us to be seen together in that town. This does not surprise me at all. I don't care how much some one tells me that the south has changed. Stories like this, tells me it hasn't.

5. I'm from right outside S'port, too.
I'm surprised this kind of crap doesn't happen there every day. So many racist rednecks there.

But then agin, I've lived all over the world, and I've seen boatloads of nasty racists everywhere I've lived. Contrary to popular belief, the South doesn't have a monopoly on this behavior.

9. I'm aware of that. I'm also aware that whites aren't the only people to hold racist views
Edited on Tue Dec-09-08 11:55 AM by notadmblnd
However, whites and the south seem to be the most open about it.

Plain Dealing?

14. It's not just the whites, either
My son was bullied in middle school there, just because he was white. On his first day of school, he was shoved into a brick wall and told, "Don't mess with us blacks." The racial harassment happened every day, and when we went to the principal's office, she looked at Justin and asked him what he did to deserve it.

That's when I sent him to live with his dad. And we moved away from Louisiana as quickly as the military would let us, so that our younger children wouldn't have to deal with that.

I am doing my best to raise non-racist children, but when they are beaten up by blacks simply due to being white, what can I do? Those kids went and ruined all of the work I did to raise a color-blind child. It really made me angry.

11. freeper mentality.....let's gang up on somebody
that's how freeper types operate. they're racists that make sure there are more of them than the other guy.

in other words, they are cowards.

here's to hoping that their bad karma catches up to them before they brutally attack another innocent person.

16. many, many racial incidents over the year around shreveport/bossier city
Edited on Tue Dec-09-08 01:03 PM by pitohui
seems like it's one of the last strongholds of racist jerkweeds if you ask me

sorry to hear the man was beaten up for selling some shirts, meanwhile, in the southern part of the state, even the GOP owned news orleans newspaper has jumped on the "bandwagon" of selling obama memorabilia -- hell, they even endorsed obama over mccain, which i thought hell would freeze over before that happened (they could not endorse * in 04 but refused to make any endorsement)

i hope they find the fucks that did this, i'd say sue them for enough to pay to print thousands of obama shirts, but the creeps who did this are prob. broke-ass and don't have anything...at least arrest their sorry asses and prosecute them for the cowardly attack

B girl, take note.

"McCain Volunteer Admits Faking Attack by Obama Supporter"

Associated Press

October 24, 2008

PITTSBURGH, Pa. -- A McCain campaign volunteer made up a story of being robbed, pinned to the ground and having the letter "B" scratched on her face in a politically inspired attack, police said Friday.

Ashley Todd, 20-year-old college student from College Station, Texas, admitted Friday that the story was false and was being charged with making a false report to police, said Maurita Bryant, assistant chief.

21. The examples are all in the minds of the "oppressed" fundies,
who claim they are being attacked by gay people over Prop. 8.
