Wal-Mart to pay up to $54 million to settle wage suit
Source: Reuters

Wal-Mart Stores Inc said on Tuesday that it will pay up to $54.25 million to settle a class-action lawsuit that accused the world's largest retailer of failing to grant workers their full rest breaks and requiring hourly employees to work off-the-clock in Minnesota.

In a joint statement, Wal-Mart and plaintiffs' attorneys said the settlement includes roughly 100,000 current and former hourly employees who worked at Wal-Mart and Sam's Club stores in Minnesota from September 11, 1998 through November 14, 2008.

As part of the settlement, Wal-Mart agreed to maintain electronic systems, surveys, and notices to comply with wage and hour policies, and Minnesota laws.

2. I wonder how much they're going to pay in the wrongful death
lawsuit? I hope at least $200 million. Not that it will bring the guy back, but walmart must pay and pay dearly. They screw employees and they cause a man to die needlessly. It's time to fire up the national boycott machine again.

5. Fire it up AGAIN?
Cripes, I haven't shopped there in 9 years, and never will again. Under any circumstances. They could have my critically important prescription at 99 cents vs. the 48.00 I normally pay, and I'd still never go in there. I want to see that company destroyed so bad. Die, Wal Mart, DIE!

6. Well we have three new stores in the area
in the last four or five years and I have never set foot in any of them, nor do I intend to. What I meant was that there was a much publicized national boycott against walmart organized by Unions and a website, stopwalmart or something like that. Lately, I haven't heard so much national boycott talk. I just think it's time to bring it up again.
I actually got thrown out of a local wealmart parking lot several years ago for passing out Union literature. Well, it was ten of us actually. The management called the police and told us that we were trespassing. The cops were actually sympathetic to us and just said we had to leave since it is private property. But they also said that as long as we didn't disrupt traffic, we could hand out fliers on the street outside the store. We did just that. So just calm down. I hat walmart as well.

14. They have to run the numbers to see how much they can cut the wages in China to offset the loss.

7. I worked at walmart once and they were VERY punctual
when it came to breaks. They DEMANDED that we would take our breaks. They made sure everyone had their breaks at the right times. I'm not saying every Wal-Mart is like that, but the one I worked at was like that. We had two 15 minute breaks a day, plus and hour lunch. But lemme say, working as a cashier and being on the feet for about 8 hours a day, it just wasn't enough breaks.

the 1990s. Then I think Sam Walton got senile dementia. I remember the fastest cashiers used to get bonuses and seems they had an ok shock option plan.

11. If Wally World uses the Exxon playbook, in approximately 20 years,....
the settlement will be roughly $25.00 per worker.

10. "This settlement will mean at least a four day delay in replacing the door at our Long Island store"
WalMart is only useful as a place to urinate on a road trip.
