La. Gov. Jindal: 2012 presidential bid unlikely

By BOB LEWIS, Associated Press Writer

RICHMOND, Va. – Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal said Wednesday he's not interested in a 2012 Republican presidential bid and will seek a second term as governor in 2011. Jindal, who appeared at a news conference to back Virginia Republican gubernatorial candidate Bob McDonnell, was asked if he was interested in being president. "No," he replied.

Jindal's trip to Iowa last month fueled speculation that he was laying the groundwork for a presidential campaign, and he did not rule out changing his mind over the next few years.

Instead, he said Americans are weary after the longest, most expensive election cycle in U.S. history.

"I think anybody who is even thinking of running would be well served to roll up their sleeves and support our new president," Jindal said. "I told our people, 'It doesn't matter whether you're Republican, Democrat or independent, it doesn't matter whether you voted for him or not, President-elect Barack Obama is our president.'"

1. jindal is a liar
He'll have a change of heart and label it as such. However, he might be looking at the short term economic outlook for Louisiana and think holy shit, for once in my life I might be held responsible for something that might not look too good. Louisiana conservatives are a special breed of stupid.

10. And how many candidates in 08 were denying they would run in 04?
Just about every one on both sides of the aisle were saying they wouldn't run. It means nothing.

3. If true, then it doesn't matter what kind of "young superstar" he is now
If he doesn't run in 2012, there's no way he could be successful in 2016 after Obama's second term (I'm pretty confident Obama's a two termer). I say this because the right-wing hate machine is not going to reign itself in during Obama's 8 years, and a lot of their bile will have racist overtones (subtle and outright) to it. It will be like the religious nutcases attacking McCain then doing an about-face late in the game. They're not going to end 8 years of attacking someone for not being white by backing a non-white in their own party.

So 2016 is out. If a republican wins that year, then he won't be running in 2020 (when the hypothetical GOP president is up for re-election) either so he's going to have to wait until 2024. If a democrat wins in 2016, he only has to wait until 2020, but I personally can't see the GOP purging itself of its racist overtones in between 2012 and 2020, but that year under that situation may be his best bet if he shoots straight for the top office. But if it does look like he's got to wait until 2024, that's 16 years from now - he'll be 53 by then. Do you think he'll still have that young rising superstar new car smell on him?

Jindal's best bet would be to become the vice-presidential candidate to get the GOP used to seeing him a heartbeat away from the presidency. I don't know much about him - would his ego let him do that?

12. If Obama is a two termer, why would Jindal want to run in 2012?

17. I'm not sure I understand you
Jindal said that he's ruling out 2012. I'm guessing that Obama will be a two term president so when 2016 rolls around, I'm saying that it would be difficult for him to run because the right-wing hate machine is going to go overboard on the racism during Barack's 8 years, and after 8 years of rallying up the racist part of their base to get out their vote in 2012, Jindal would have a rough time of it in 2016. Then in my analysis, in 2020, he would have his best shot if another democrat won in 2016, or he would have to wait until 2024 unless he was going to run against a hypothetical incumbent republican president.

5. Piyush Jindal
Piyush Jindal says he won't run.

Piyush Jindal could be a formidable candiate, but Piyush Jindal is still young and may be biding his time. Piyush Jindal has to run for reeelction in 2011, which would make it hard for him to be ready for Iowa and New Hampshire in January, 2012. But Piyush Jindal could run in 2016 or even in 2020. Piyush Jindal is still young.

8. It would be rich indeed, the spectacle of watching people like
Limbaugh and Hannity falling all over themselves to excuse Jindal from having once, *actually* (as opposed to *not really* (as in Obama's case)), been a member of some 'strange eastern religion', some of whose members have made it their life's work to violently eradicate Christianity from from an Asian nation.

13. The base loves him
I have read his name associated with 2012 matchups with Palin, Romney, Jeb Bush, Huckabee, and others.

15. If I were a Pub, I would not run in 2012. Unless something bizarre happens, who would want to run
against incumbent POTUS Obama?

16. They think they can reorganize and win again in 4yrs
Given the nasty economy which you know they will try to completely blame on the Democratic Party even though they set the stage for what we have today. Expect nasty Rovian politics to poison the well between now and 2012.

It will not be about helping the country through tough times but to grab that power again.

19. Absolutely right
Unless Obama completely screws up, he will be reelected in 2012, and running against him and losing would be political suicide. Jindal will run in 2016.
