Gov. Crist, you may now kiss the bride
Edited on Fri Dec-12-08 10:57 PM by DainBramaged
Source: MSNBC

Gov. Charlie Crist became the first sitting Florida governor to wed in nearly 42 years, exchanging vows Friday at a ceremony attended by some 200 relatives, friends and celebrities.

The 52-year-old governor wed his 39-year-old bride, New York socialite Carole Rome, at First United Methodist Church, a short walk from Crist's rented condo in St. Petersburg. They met at a dinner in New York City in September 2007 and Crist proposed less than 10 months later with a sapphire engagement ring.

Crist kissed Rome briefly at the end of the ceremony — perhaps too briefly. She put her hands on his face and kissed him again. Afterward, the couple walked out of the church and addressed waiting reporters.

57. The mentality of homophobes is not rational. It's ok to be gay as long as you pretend you're not.
Pathetic, isn't it? Everyone at that wedding knows he's gay, but not one of them will admit it openly, and if he runs for higher office, many Republicans will know he's gay but they'll vote for him as long as he keeps it a secret.

If he came out and lived openly as a gay man they'd throw him to the curb.

So it's okay if a "closeted" gay Republican marries a woman in a sham marriage, but not okay if two people of the same sex who love each other? Got it.

50. Yet another hypocritcal Rethug asshole
Almost everyone here in Florida knows this is a sham marriage. Good old Gov. Crist hasn't done a very good job of keeping his homosexuality a secret, as several of his former lovers have come out - including one who was an aid to Katherine Harris.

Honestly, I could really care less about Crist being gay, except that he follows the rethug party line on gay civil rights. He helped lead the fight for the amendment that outlawed gay marriage here in Florida. He's a lying sack of shit, a closet case who is clearly using this marriage to shore up his conservative credentials to further his political career.

55. Yes, we're definitely intolerant of hypocrisy
Charlie Crist was one of the leaders in the push to get an anti-single-sex-marriage amendment into the Florida constitution. That's bad, but it's even worse when you're gay yourself.

62. lol "We don't tolerate hypocrites."
Crist is pathetic, and I have no interest in defending him or his laughingstock career.

But that's beside the point.

All you intolerantly tolerant gay bashers remind me of something Oscar Wilde said.

"On an occasion of this kind it becomes more than a moral
duty to speak one's mind. It becomes a pleasure."

lol So it's not gay bashing if you don't like who you're targeting. In that case, it's a moral duty and even more importantly, a true delight. The rationalization of bigots everywhere.

59. Governor and Mrs. Charlie Crist, December 12, 2008
Edited on Mon Dec-15-08 11:23 AM by seafan
It's Gov. and Mrs. Charlie Crist, December 13, 2008

Gov. Charlie Crist and Carole Rome listen to Rev. David Miller during their wedding Friday at First United Methodist Church in St. Petersburg. Rome’s daughters Skylar, 10, and Jessica, 12, are in back. Colin Hackley | Florida Governor's Office

.....

Inside, the people at the church cranked down the thermostat. The governor didn't want to get too hot.

The sanctuary was all roses and hydrangeas and Christmas trees.

Trumpet Voluntary by Henry Purcell played as the bride walked down the aisle. She was escorted by her daughters Skylar, 10, and Jessica, 12. Crist smiled beside his father, Dr. Charles Crist of St. Petersburg, his best man.

His dad teared up, just like at the rehearsal.

Skylar and Jessica walked their mom toward Crist. They both took her hand and gave it to the governor.

When the Rev. David Miller, pastor of the church, asked who was there to give the bride away, the daughters answered "I do'' and "I do.''

The vows were traditional. Each of them pledged to "have and to hold from this day forward for better or worse, for richer or poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish until death us do part.''

The kiss was tender and brief.

She wanted more.

She put her hands on his face and kissed him again.
