Toledo-Twenty-eight Roman Catholic priests in the Toledo diocese have been accused of sexually abusing children since 1950, the bishop said Friday.
Seven other nondiocesan priests and a permanent deacon also faced allegations during that period, said Bishop Leonard Blair.
Two were cleared, and 24 have been barred from any ministry. One remains under investigation, and nine of the accused have died.
The allegations involved about 2 percent of the 1,753 clerics who have worked in the diocese over the past half century, Blair said in releasing details as part of a national report due Feb. 27 from Catholic bishops.
