Carville soliciting help for Media Matters
Edited on Fri Dec-19-08 05:21 PM by BlueJessamine
Source: The Hill

Democratic strategist James Carville, using Secretary of State nominee Hillary Rodham Clinton's e-mail list, sent out an e-mail Friday trying to recruit supporters and donations for Media Matters for America, the liberal media watchdog group.

With the subject line "It's happening again," Carville compares the scandal of Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich (D) and his relationship to President-elect Obama to the scandals that followed the Clintons into office and proved a distraction througout both of President Clinton's terms.

Carville wrote that the Clintons "hadn't even unpacked their boxes before the right-wing noise machine started hyping phony scandals and inventing gossip."

"Too many in the media played a key role in spreading these smears, forgetting their responsibility as journalists and repeating fiction as fact," Carville wrote. "Now it's happening again. The same far-right fanatics and those in the media who disseminate their attacks far and wide are trying to derail the new Democratic administration before it's even gotten off the ground. They spread gossip and suggest scandal where there is none, all in the interest of generating controversy instead of communicating the facts."

While Carville never mentions the Blagojevich scandal by name, he appears to be referring to lingering questions about what Obama's staff, specifically incoming Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel, might have said to Blagojevich, who was arrested on corruption charges that include trying to sell Obama's Senate seat.

2. Carville is a slimeball
Media Matters was launched to counteract the complicit acquiescence of scumbags like Carville.

Rent the DVD "Our Brand Is Crisis" -- a documentary about Carville's paid role in supporting oligarchs running Bolivia -- for a close-up look at Carville's trail of slime.

Where was Carville helping Media Matters for 8 years when it mattered?

6. That'd be just "dandy"!

Yup, Carville just joined the faculty at Tulane. Kind of odd for someone who once went on national cable TV in his purple LSU sweats, but what the hey? The downside, of course, is that Matalin comes with him. :puke: The city was already getting too conservatroid-friendly for my taste...

7. Isn't Media Matters worth help? If so, why are DUers denigrating Carville
for trying to help the site? Catch me up here please!!!!!!!!!!!! Is it just a given that we attack Hillary supporters no matter what they try to do to help? If so, I dissent from that?

8. DU really isn't Carville's audience, afaik.
It's not about Hillary as much as about stuff he is solely responsible for. I hope whoever listens to him antes up for Media Matters.

9. Agreed, makes no sense why he'd be attacked for helping out an important site.

It's not impartial or unbiased, either.

15. Huh?!1 David BROCK "is a Clintonian"?!1 He has made his peace with the CLINTONs since
his conversion against his former henchpeople/wingnuts, but somebody (him) who was at the center of DRUDGE-like machinations against CLINTON could hardly be "a CLINTONIAN."

Btw, I regard converts as somebody to be wary of, since they tend to swing from one extreme to the other: Al CAPP (cartoonist of Lil Abner) and RAYGUN started out as FDR followers, then became wingnuts. Jane FONDA went from poor little rich girl to ingenue to sexpot to political activist to "fitness guru" to wife of powerful man---when all along her central issue was looking for something to fill her cold father's void. Laura INGRAHAM converted to Catholicism, but I can't find any spirituality in her hatefulness, no change in her at all.

But BROCK has appeared to be the most convincing convert ever.

That said, as somebody posted above, CARVILLE and the CLINTONs aren't popular here, but the point is that the title of the article makes it sound like Media Matters is in trouble. I hope not. It, along with the Daily Howler, are about the most spot-on spearthrowers at wingnut disinformation going.
