CBS pulls `political' Medicare ad
By Jennifer Heldt Powell
Saturday, February 14, 2004

CBS yesterday yanked a controversial Medicare ad pending a congressional investigation into whether it's too political.

Democratic lawmakers were sharply critical of the 30-second spot, saying it promotes President Bush's reelection campaign rather than the senior health care plan.

The administration has said the ad is part of a $12 million effort to inform seniors about Medicare reforms, including new drug benefits. The ad reminds seniors that basic benefits won't change.

Democrats say the ad is misleading and have asked the General Accounting Office, the investigative arm of Congress, to review it along with a letter sent to seniors about Medicare.

2. A day late and a dollar short
When CBS airs the Reagan mini-series on prime time and tells the FCC to go to hell with its Super Bowl halftime show, maybe I'll reconsider my opinion of that cowardly network.

4. It's almost a given that you are referring to Howard Dean
While I certainly think he has brought something to the pug-dem debate, it amazes me that Dennis Kucinich is ignored by so many when he almost singlehandedly fought * tooth and nail in the House and led the charge against * and his policies, gathering approx. 133 votes in the House against the war resolution, etc.

Isn't it time that everybody on this board give credit where credit is due. YEA, KUCINICH!

It is interesting to me that the newly converted have risen to the top.

8. Dennis Kucinich & Howard Dean are two fighting SOB's
I love 'em both. I'll back whoever runs against junior and his crime cabal.

My hat is off to all of the candidates. Al Sharpton is one funny guy, he's come a long ways from the Tawana Brawley thingy.

6. I have taken a pledge to never pick up a CBS show again.
As a matter of fact, I am considering giving up television all together.(although I would miss Bill Moyer's Now) Books, Netflix and the papers on-line are all much more entertaining and informative.

9. Why shouldn't the U.S. Federal government pay for ads like this?
They spent in the hundreds of millions to promote the war in Iraq. Government money (taxes) to tell people lies so they can lie some more to keep their other Friends in the green.

Total bullshit whitewash regarding the gutting of Medicare, but what else could we expect from the gang of looters in this administration?

13. Ever notice how much gov't advertising goes to FOX?
FOX seems to get more than its fair share of public service ads on smoking, drug prevention, homeland security, etc. Lately, even the closed captioning on FOX -- Murdoch didn't used to put a dime into helping the hearing impaired -- is now being sponsored by the Dept of Education.
