5. They make mobile homes.
Way back when I was a young'un our town built a nice new school with a domed gym roof. It collapsed due to snow load, fortunately on a weekend with no events happening. It was in midwest and whomever designed/built it messed up.

They manufacture mobile homes and buildings, not vehicles.

11. OMG, River Rouge!?! isn't that one of the oldest Ford plants in the country?
IIRC that plant goes back to the 1910s, before they used conveyor belts!

late 1920s.

12. I figured it was River Rouge. It was a nasty place when I went there.
Edited on Tue Dec-23-08 03:33 PM by alfredo
I was in process of getting a job with Ford. They took us to River Rouge. When I was taken into the belly of the beast, I decided I didn't want to work there. It was the definition of ugliness and almost seemed designed to crush ones spirit.

Remember the song "River Rouge Blues"?

I also have a mint WABX decoder ring in the box. About 1972? I started at the Wayne plant that year.

15. I was living in the Cass corridor at the time. 1970 to 1975.
Who sang that song?

Lived in the old Boones Farm commune house on Avery. Drank a bit of beer at Cobb's corner, lived in the basement of the Alexandrine on Alexandria, On Forrest, and Willis. It was actually called the El Moore. I used to sit in that window above the door. I drove hack for American Cab, and other jobs while there.
BTW the MC5 and the Fruit lived there while I lived there. The place was full of pushers, hookers, hippies and pimps.

One of my travel buddies/school chum fell into a bad crowd, became a junkie. One night he broke into my room and stole some stuff. When he found out I knew, he ran off to Kentucky. I don't forget or forgive so I went down to find him and beat him to a pulp. I was at home and my dad's police scanner was playing in the background. My ears perked up when I heard his name. He was being busted for possession. I didn't get to beat him, but knowing it was the Shively police, there was a good chance he would get phone booked and otherwise roughed up.

18. That is a cool building
Every window opening above the entry arch is a variation on the arch.

I always wonder what it takes to heat such a building.

16. ford river rouge
the ford river rouge plant complex is ancient. i am 67 years and my grandfather worked there and retired from there at age 70 in 1963. surprised it has not already been replaced. i think only a skeleton crew works during the change over, retooling for new model year. hope all is okay, not good memories at xmastime.
