Exclusive: Cheney’s admissions to the CIA leak prosecutor and FBI
Source: Murray Waas

Vice President Dick Cheney, according to a still-highly confidential FBI report, admitted to federal investigators that he rewrote talking points for the press in July 2003 that made it much more likely that the role of then-covert CIA-officer Valerie Plame in sending her husband on a CIA-sponsored mission to Africa would come to light.

Cheney conceded during his interview with federal investigators that in drawing attention to Plame’s role in arranging her husband’s Africa trip reporters might also unmask her role as CIA officer.

Cheney denied to the investigators, however, that he had done anything on purpose that would lead to the outing of Plame as a covert CIA operative. But the investigators came away from their interview with Cheney believing that he had not given them a plausible explanation as to how he could focus attention on Plame’s role in arranging her husband’s trip without her CIA status also possibly publicly exposed. At the time, Plame was a covert CIA officer involved in preventing Iran from obtaining weapons of mass destruction, and Cheney’s office played a central role in exposing her and nullifying much of her work.

Cheney revised the talking points on July 8, 2003– the very same day that his then-chief of staff, I. Lewis (Scooter) Libby, met with New York Times reporter Judith Miller and told Miller that Plame was a CIA officer and that Plame had also played a central role in sending her husband on his CIA sponsored trip to the African nation of Niger.

6. The final episodes of "The Shield"...
...the "Vic Mackey" character locked in his blanket pardon and then gave it all up. Seems like the Bush Administration might be fans of the show, or taking notes at a minimum.

26. That's the reason the asshole is admitting them now -
There's no time to impeach now thanks to DLC Democrats refusing, and of course Bushit will pardon him and everyone else.

9. And we sit and bitch and whine...
...and don't demand impeachment/prosecution. Why? Because we think we can't do anything, so it becomes the accepted belief and meme. It's a false meme that we're going to need to force ourselves to break and an attitude we need to change.

20. When is treason not treason?
At one point George HW Bush stated that disclosure of a CIA agent's identity, covert or not, was treason. There were covert agents who worked with Valerie Plame years before and of course their lives were endangered as a result although personally I have little regard for the CIA and little feeling about any CIA agent being murdered by foreign spies given the number of foreign spies, and democratically elected government leaders, they have murdered through the years. Live by the sword, die by the sword as they say.

But you do have to ask the question when is treason not treason? When a Bush commits treason.

23. Could it be possible they're waiting until Bush DOESN'T have pardon power?
You can't pardon someone who hasn't be prosecuted or even officially charged with anything.

I know, I know, this would require foresight and spines, but is it possible that that's why Congress has dragged its feet for so long?

30. Blanket pardons!
The president's pardon powers are considered absolute. Blanket pardons — covering groups of unnamed individuals — historically have been rare but are not unprecedented.

25. What role????
Wilson's wife had a very tangential role....like someone asked if her husband might do it and she said "yeah".....so even if the purpose of this deception by Cheney was not to out Plame, it still is deception employed to discredit reliable info. (Then they blame the "bad info"????) It's still jeopardizing National Security for political reasons.

Crap!

I still don't believe him when he says he didn't mean to out Plame. He's simply not that stupid.

28. Incredible
I didn't trust Fitzgerald. There was enough evidence there to prosecute for leaking Plame's identity. Fitzgerald just chose not to pursue it.
