Pakistan cancels military leave

Pakistan has cancelled leave for members of its military due to fears of a confrontation with India following last month's Mumbai attacks.

The decision on Friday came after Pakistan's armed forces were placed on high alert.

"Leave has been cancelled because of the situation. All soldiers have been asked to report to duty," an official speaking anonymously said.

The Pakistani military did not immediately comment, but several soldiers confirmed the story.

look at what that means when we dropped the bomb on Japan. Anyone, including the USA are dumbfucks if they do this. Since they have had a look see at what the consequences of nuclear attack is, they are double dumbfucks. Nothing that they are fighting over would justify nuclear attack. Unless of course, you don't find fault with what the USA did.

15. Balkanizing a belligerent country which is ruled by egotistical

military dictators to the detriment of its people is not "derogatory" but strategic common sense.

I don't put down or lessen the people of Pakistan or derogate them by color, creed, religion, gender, race or sexual preference. Pakistanis come from the same gene pool as Indians -- after all, they were a part of India until the brits created an illegitimate state out of spite and are thus every bit as Indian as any Indian.

4. India explains moving troops to border

NEW DELHI, Dec. 27 (UPI) -- India's government Saturday dismissed claims its movement of more troops to its western border with Pakistan is because of mounting tensions with its neighbor.

Press Trust of India reported that Indian Defense Ministry spokesperson Sitanshu Kar said the troop movements were "normal" and "routine."

Kar was quoted as saying the soldiers are taking part in a winter training exercise in Rajasthan and Punjab.

"Taking into consideration the climatic conditions of Rajasthan throughout the year, winter months are the best months for troops to practice maneuvers and hence these annual training exercises," Kar said.

I just visited the Line of Control in Indian Kashmir (border with Pakistan). Everything is quiet. I talked to the army officers and they said there's no chance of a war...

I think there's a greater chance of a war between US and Iran that between India and Pakistan.

Its in their interest to do this - to shore up support for the unpopular army. To build up war hysteria, so US will stop pressurizing Pakistan to capture Al Qaeda in the NW Frontier Province.

No one is even talking about the war in India.

ISLAMABAD (AFP) — Pakistan on Tuesday called for talks with India to defuse tensions between the nuclear-armed neighbours, as New Delhi denied claims it had moved troops into offensive positions on the border.

The comments from the foreign ministers of the south Asian rivals were the latest in a series of tit-for-tat responses since the Mumbai attacks that India blamed on Pakistan-based militants, triggering a deterioration in relations. "Dialogue is in the interest of both the countries -- we should sit across the table," Pakistani Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi said in a policy statement broadcast live on local television.

"India should de-activate its forward air bases and relocate its ground forces to peacetime positions," Qureshi said. "This will send a positive signal and reduce tensions in the region."

Qureshi described developments in the past two days -- such as a hotline conversation between high-level military officials from the two countries -- as "positive".
