Deputy fatally shoots gunman who killed supervisor at Colorado ski resort

Reporting from Boulder, Colo. -- A ski resort worker opened fire Tuesday morning on fellow employees at a small resort in the mountains west of Boulder, killing a supervisor and fleeing before a sheriff's deputy shot him to death.

Derik A. Bonestroo walked into a maintenance shed at Eldora Mountain Resort about 7:30 a.m. as other employees were changing into their work clothes and started yelling about religion, Boulder County sheriff's officials said. They did not provide details about Bonestroo's statements, but one witness told reporters that he questioned them about their religious beliefs.

He then fired a shot into the ceiling, resort officials said.

When Brian Mahon, 49, the resort's general manager, walked in and asked what was going on, Bonestroo shot him, Undersheriff Tom Shomaker said.
