Cops: Dad ordered to pay child support kills son

NEW ORLEANS – A man who initially told police gunmen kidnapped his 2 1/2-year-old son was arrested Saturday, accused of committing an "extremely hideous" murder because he was ordered to pay child support, Police Superintendent Warren Riley said.

Danny Platt confessed, told police where to find the child's body and will be booked on a charge of first-degree murder in the death of Ja' Shawn Powell, Riley said at a news conference.

"He had said he would kill either his wife or his child before he paid child support," which he recently had been ordered to do, Riley said.

Riley said he did not know the amount of child support and would not describe how the boy was killed, saying the coroner would do that after the autopsy was complete. The coroner's spokesman did not immediately return a call....

good thing he confessed. The DA's office is every bit as dysfunctional as the PD, so he'd probably have gotten off scot-free otherwise.

Well, he thought child support was going to be asking a lot, wait until trial.

I watched a program on the History channel in December about the gangs in NOLA and the murder laws in Louisiana. I think they have 60 days to bring a suspect to trial or 60 days to find a suspect (I can't remember which it is), if they don't do anything after 60 days the person goes free.

Kirsten Brydum was riding her bike in NOLA in September 2008 and she turned up dead seven hours after leaving a night club...

What in the hell is wrong with the country when we produce monsters like that. I think killing him would be easy. I would want him to live and spend the rest of his life in prison. I would put a picture up on his cell wall and make sure he can't take it down and let him think about what he did. But I am sure the prisoners will take care of him.

from a car accident. It doesn't matter the reason. Some people are like that and I really hope he and they never get out of prison. I'm all for the dp in this case as with for anyone that thinks killing people as soon as they become in convenient, is fine. This guy should never be out of prison, but actually, I don't even believe this type - who are willing to take others lives for such trivial reasons, should be allowed to have life.
