Turkey holds suspicious Iran-Venezuela shipment

Selcan Hacaoglu, Associated Press Writer – ANKARA, Turkey – Turkey was holding a suspicious shipment bound for Venezuela from Iran because it contained lab equipment capable of producing explosives, a customs official said Tuesday.

Suleyman Tosun, a customs official at the Mediterranean port of Mersin, said military experts were asked to examine the material, which was seized last month, and decide whether to let the shipment to go to Venezuela.

Authorities detected the equipment during a search of 22 containers labeled "tractor parts," Tosun said. They were brought to Mersin by trucks from neighboring Iran, he said. Turkey's Interior Ministry said an investigation was under way.

"Experts from Turkey's Atomic Institute determined there were no traces of radioactive material, but said the equipment was enough to set up an explosives lab," Tosun said. "We have asked the military to send experts to determine whether to resume the shipment."

2. not sure, just material for to set up an explosive lab and some chemicals
you know, your everyday variety bilateral trade items.

"Experts from Turkey's Atomic Institute determined there were no traces of radioactive material, but said the equipment was enough to set up an explosives lab," Tosun said. "We have asked the military to send experts to determine whether to resume the shipment."

Some barrels, labeled with "danger" signs, contained chemicals. Tosun said details were still unclear.

3. Why would Venezuela be denied explosives?
What gives Turkey the right to hold up a shipment to Venezuela anyway?

6. What a laughable scaremongering article.
Oh no, lab equipment that could be used to set up to make explosives? Or it could be used in the oilfields, just like the "explosives" making lab equipment we use in our oilfields.

This took longer to type then usual because I was laughing too much. We pay all this money for dicreditation operations and this is the best we can get? I want a refund.

7. what about Venezuela's Sukois and Mig 29s
purchased from Russia?
Do they need these explosives to load on those war planes?
LOL how powerful iran has become!
Who could have expected?
Of course phosphorous bombs and laser guided missiles are harmless against Gaza UN schools and children even if they go though Turkey on occasion!
