Thousands to march for Gaza peace
Source: BBC

Thousands of protesters are expected to march in cities across the UK to call for an end to the conflict in Gaza.

Police in London said they expected similar numbers to last week, when tens of thousands marched to urge an end to Israeli military strikes on Gaza.

Protests are also due in Birmingham, Cardiff, Liverpool and Nottingham.

There will also be demonstrations in Norwich and Cambridge.

The events have been organised by Stop the War Coalition, Palestine Solidarity Campaign, British Muslim Association and other groups.

Andrew Burgin, spokesman for Stop the War said: "We are protesting today to have a full war crimes investigation into what has been done in Gaza."

4. Over 500,000 in DC in Jan of 2007
I was there. So were several other DUers.

The anti-choice zealots also march nearly every January in DC.

your talking that "world can't wait" rally after the nov 2006 elections .
I remember the discrepancies on crowd estimates
got a link to your 500k day with pics ?

I remember the US park service came up with statistics but comparing a 2007 rally to the Jan 2009 non rally is comparing apples to oranges..

But in under reported news concerning Gaza;

why would they react like that ?

8. I was there and she is right. And the so called "pull out" from Gaza
hasn't stopped the occupation.

The Muslim Brotherhood is an organization that several administrations, including the Egyption one, consider a significant opposition. They react that way because they want to keep their berths.

5. They are marching in Portland today.
They marched last weekend too.

I'm a sick old broad, and going out in crowds of people would put me in bed for a month, but I'm there in spirit. My nephew will be there - I watched his transformation from brainwashed Iraq vet to committed progressive - and my heart swells to think of him and other passionate citizens in the street today.

10. He'll be in the one today,
in Portland. I've been bedridden sick and didn't even know about the last one. :(

It will be vastly under-reported as always. I'm glad there's Indymedia!

9. Europeans keep up protests against Israel's Gaza war
PARIS (AFP) – Thousands of protesters calling for Israel to stop its military campaign in Gaza rallied in European cities Saturday, even as Israel reportedly is poised to declare a unilateral ceasefire.

The demonstrations across the continent were largely peaceful apart from bursts of violence in Paris and London.

In the French capital, an estimated 2,600 people, some carrying Palestinian flags, marched through the city centre behind a banner declaring "Palestinian resistance: Stop the French-Israeli collaboration".

Police however stepped in when the marchers reached the Garnier Opera plaza, using tear gas to stop some protesters who tried to force open a gate at the opera house. Several people were arrested, an AFP correspondent reported.
