US peace envoy to meet Abbas on Wednesday

RAMALLAH: The new US envoy to the Middle East, former senator George Mitchell, will meet with Palestinian president Mahmud Abbas on Wednesday in Ramallah, a senior Palestinian official said on Saturday.

"Mitchell and Abbas will discuss how to relaunch the Israeli-Palestinian peace process," said the source.

US officials in the region declined to confirm Mitchell's visit.
When appointing Mitchell on Thursday, US President Barack Obama said he would be sending Mitchell "to the region as soon as possible..."

The 75-year-old Mitchell, who helped negotiate the 1998 Good Friday agreement that helped bring peace to Northern Ireland, is no stranger to the Middle East peace process.

5. So the west has decided for the Palestinians that Abbas is in
charge regardless of their vote. I could have sworn another party or group won the majority of the palestinians vote. That would be like if Obama and the democrats won the presidency and the majority in congress but yet China, Russia and other major powers decided they preferred to talk to and deal with McCain and the Republicans.

6. And so another exposes his ignorance about the situation.
It would be nice if people actually knew about the situation, the players, and the reality, instead of making it up as they go.
