Sri Lanka says it captured last rebel stronghold
Source: AP

COLOMBO, Sri Lanka (AP) — Sri Lanka's army commander says the military has captured the Tamil Tiger rebels' last major stronghold of Mullaittivu in the country's northeast.

Lt. Gen. Sarath Fonseka said Sunday on national television that troops captured the town earlier in the afternoon. He said that the 25-year-old civil war was 95 percent over.

Many of the remaining rebel fighters were presumed to be in the nearby jungles of the northeast.

The fall of Mullaittivu would rob the rebels of the last major town under their control. The military captured the rebels administrative capital of Kilinochchi earlier this month and promised to crush the rebel group.

This is a slaughter just like Gaza, but nobody's paying attention. Put the President of Sri Lanka on the long list of war criminals.

1. To be fair,
The Tamils aren't exactly angels either, quite a few of their leaders could much more easily qualify as a war criminal then the PM of Sri Lanka

World economic collapse closely linked to the revolution collapse ?

3. Less a "slaughter just like Gaza" and more a straight-up war the Tigers are losing
Remember, these poor benighted civilians are the only guerilla/rebel group on the planet to field a navy and air force. Oh, and they also pretty much invented suicide bombing, practiced it on several heads of state, etc.

I can't particularly say I support either side in this war, and I don't feel I should have to back one or the other - it's a war, after all, and that sucks - but the winner in these things isn't automatically more evil just because the other guy's finally at a disadvantage.
