2 US helicopters crash in Iraq, 4 Americans killed

Two U.S. helicopters crashed Monday in northern Iraq, killing four American troops, the U.S. military said.

The military said the crash happened at about 2:15 a.m. local time and it "does not appear to be by enemy action." No precise location was given.

Iraqi officials said the crash site was located about 20 miles west of Kirkuk, which is about 180 miles north of Baghdad. They spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not supposed to release the information.

1. "Crash" euphemism for "Shot down"

They simply had a head-on collision with an RPG.

First hand information that I've seen and heard...it wasn't a shoot down. Evidence points to a collision. OH-58D helicopters often fly in pairs in a high-bird/low-bird set up. Often the high bird loses sight of the low bird and that's when trouble starts.
