Families Of 9/11 Firefighters Want Obama Meeting
Source: AP

NEW YORK (AP) ―

Three families of firefighters killed at the World Trade Center on Sept. 11 want to meet with President Barack Obama to urge him to reverse his decision to suspend the trial of five detainees in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, who admit roles in the terror attacks.

In a meeting with reporters at their attorney's office on Sunday, the families deplored what they called "delays and confusion" in the former Bush administration's effort to prosecute suspects in the 2001 attacks, which killed about 3,000 people, saying they want "a firm commitment" that the same process won't continue under Obama.

"Seven and a half years is a very long time for 3,000 families to wait," said Maureen Santora, whose son was among the 343 firefighters killed when the twin towers collapsed after being struck by two hijacked jetliners.

...

Siegel said the administration of former President George W. Bush had "screwed up every possible option" for swift and effective prosecution of the Sept. 11 terrorists in part by creating a Military Commission to try the suspects that subsequently was ruled unconstitutional in some respects by the U.S. Supreme Court.

...

He added that "the $64 million question" was why the five detainees who have openly acknowledged their part in terrorist acts in court were not simply ruled guilty and sentenced.

1. It's a shame that those who admitted guilt..
were tortured. I thought it was explained rather clearly that what needs to happen is untainted evidence needs to be gathered, new charges brought, and a new legal frame set in place in which to try them. Did I miss something?

2. They should be demanding a real trial in the criminal courts
Rather than kangaroo trials in kooky Cuban enclaves.

5. I would like to see the 9/11 families in general
urge Obama to launch a real investigation into 9/11 - one that gets at the truth and reports it to the American people. So much of the reason for the "delay and confusion" prosecuting anybody is,no doubt, the same reason the Bush Crime Family didn't want 9/11 investigated in the first place -- their own culpability.

7. Well the 64 million dollar question is
Edited on Mon Jan-26-09 02:47 PM by Politicalboi
Who really did 9/11. If they really want to know the truth they would demand another full investigation of 9/11. These 5 detainees are innocent of 9/11. I'm glad they weren't found guilty. I would bet my life that they had nothing to do with it. They are all patsies who have been humiliated and tortured and want to be martyrs now. I mean after all the firemen with breathing problems got no attention for their sickness that should tell these people something. Bush didn't care then nor does he now. The five detainees should be Bush, Cheney, Condi, Wolfowitz, and Rumsfeld. And the 5 real detainees should be released along with the rest of 240. If they have a problem with that then let them go to Texas and picket in front of Bush's house. I'm sorry for the families, but I am a 9/11 truther and I don't believe Al CIAda had anything to do with 9/11. My belief is that Bush and Israel are behind it and I will never change my mind about it.
