Obama's Half-Brother Arrested on Charge of Marijuana Possession
Source: CNN.com

NAIROBI, Kenya (CNN) -- George Obama, the half brother of U.S. President Barack Obama, has been arrested by Kenyan police on a charge of possession of marijuana, police said Saturday.

George Obama was arrested in Kenya on a charge for possession of marijuana, according to police.

Inspector Augustine Mutembei, the officer in charge, said Obama was arrested on charges of possession of cannabis, known in Kenya as Bhang, and resisting arrest. He is scheduled to appear in court Monday, Mutembei said.

He is being held at Huruma police post in the capital of Nairobi.

CNN Correspondent David McKenzie talked with George Obama at the jail where he is being held. Speaking from behind bars, Obama denied the allegations.

"They took me from my home," he said, "I don't know why they are charging me."

George Obama and the president barely know each other, though they have met before. George Obama was one of the president's few close relatives who did not go to the inauguration in Washington last week.

I feel for this guy. How awful to have your life splattered across world news like this, just because the brother you barely know is President of another country. *sigh*

How long until Repukes try and tie Obama to this? 3...2...1....

2. Yeah. You know what shocks me the most?
That marijuana is actually illegal in Kenya. I've always been under the impression that most of these third-world countries have a MUCH more realistic and practical attitude about drugs than we do.

8. Now this man is going to be stuck with corporate media following him around, breathing down his neck
and maybe setting up traps to catch him goofing off, gleeful accounts of which they can send back to their overfocused, emotionally stunted, morally dead, right-wing bosses, and the entire nasty bunch of buttheads can rejoice daily over his pitfalls, his errors in judgement, his personality deficiencies, if they exist, and regale the knuckle-dragging, mouth-breathing flat-earther readers/tv viewers back home.

He's going to have hordes of buggy-eyed, insincere, falsely friendly clowns dogging his steps, as the world looks on, wondering if he's going to embarrass a half-brother he hardly knows off in another country.

How fucking pathetic.

What's the point in dragging this story out here, anyway? Democrats are bright enough to realize how stupid it is to hold Barack Obama responsible for the actions of this man from another country. This is a story I'd expect to see a drooling idiot like Limbaugh to display proudly, not a DU'er.

57. Honestly, I believe that's what the whole incident is about.
It's guilt by association and it's used as a corporate media propaganda piece against the thought of legalizing what should be legalized.

Apparently this man was happy with his life as it was, and he was contributing to his community.

17. Lest it be forgotten, Nixon had a strange brother, too. Our corporate media just didn't stir
themselves to write much about it at the time. Figures, doesn't it?

His Wiki:
Francis Donald Nixon (23 November 1914 – 27 June 1987) was a brother of United States President Richard Nixon.

In January 1957 Howard Hughes lent Donald Nixon $205,000 to bail out his "Nixon's" drive-in restaurant in Whittier, California. <1> The restaurant went bankrupt less than a year later. Questions about whether this was a political favor dogged Richard Nixon during his campaign for president and later when he sought the governorship of California. <2>

He never lived it down, and one of the many speculated motives for the 1972 Watergate burglary that ultimately led to Richard Nixon's resignation was a desire to find proof that the then-Democratic National Committee chairman Larry O'Brien was also secretly working for Hughes. <3> John H. Meier, one of Howard Hughes's former business advisers, in collaboration with former Vice President of the United States Hubert Humphrey and others, was using Donald Nixon to feed misinformation to his brother the President. Meier told Donald that he was sure the Democrats would win the election since they had a lot of information on Richard Nixon’s illicit dealings with Howard Hughes that had never been released, and that Larry O’Brien had the information <4> (O’Brien didn’t actually have any documents but Meier wanted Richard Nixon to think he did). Donald then called his brother and told him that Meier gave the Democrats all the Hughes information that could destroy him (Richard Nixon) and that O’Brien has it<5>.

In 1973, financier Robert Vesco fled the United States hoping to avoid prosecution on charges of embezzlement. Shortly before his departure, in hopes of shutting off the United States Securities and Exchange Commission investigation into his activities, Vesco routed substantial political contributions to President Richard Nixon through Donald Nixon, Jr., Donald Nixon's son.

In 1974 the staff of the Senate Watergate committee disclosed additional information to support the charge that Charles Rebozo gave or lent part of a $100,000 campaign contribution to President Nixon's personal secretary Rose Mary Woods, and to Nixon's brothers Donald and Edward Nixon. <6>

Donald Nixon, Jr. was held in Cuba in 1995 after obtaining assistance from Vesco in working with the Cuban government on clinical trials for an immunity-boosting drug. The clinical trials yielded positive results, however the operation was shut down by Cuban authorities subsequent to Vesco's attempt to defraud Nixon and Raul Castro, President Fidel Castro's younger brother.

During the Watergate times Donald Nixon, I assume due to shame in his own San Clemente area, began shopping at our local Alpha Beta. Mom and I once timed him gazing at the hams in a display case for nearly fifteen minutes, before walking away with no ham. Like a zombie.

34. Probably part of Watergate . . however . . .
it also looks like the election steals we've been suffering over decades might

also have been a part of Watergate as reason for bugging.

Two investigators had just turned their reports over to Larry O'Brien --

Of all the issues still covered up, election steals seem to be the biggest.

14. Billy was quite the character. Because of his antics He had a fan club of world leaders.
When they got together the first order of business was always talking about what the American Presidents crazy brother had done to them. All a world leader had to do to get into the Billy Carter Fan Club was to share the story of their crazy encounter with Billy. When Billy pissed on the back bumper of Anwar Sadats limo at the Airport. I think that made Anwar Sadat the President of the Billy Cater Fan Club. It was a great Ice Breaker. God rest Billy soul. He just doesn't make 'em like that anymore.

I know there was some coverage during the campaign about how Barack Obama's brother lived in poverty. So, the media tracked down this guy and wrote about how he lived. It was a half-hearted attempt to make Barack Obama look bad (why doesn't he help his family)

Although, Bill and Roger actually were raised together, so this is only biologically true.

Dad = douchebag. He gives the kid who's going to be President "Barack Hussein", while the other guy is named "George".

His middle name is probably like Bob or something. Poor Barack, although it does give him distinction.

Whatever it is, it is better than the repuke system of getting the 'crazy' or stupid sibling elected to office. Although, in the * gene pool there doesn't seem to be any great only crazy, stupid and horrible.

68. It's not a reflection of who you are
just saying, it's a familiar role for a sibling to be cast in, even if they aren't really strange. Let's be fair, who isn't a little off especially after these last 8 years? It seems like the media finds something to cast a president's brother as crazy, goofy, lacking sophistication, or whatever to be a stark contrast to the man people have elected. It's starting to get predictable. Like the obligatory fruit stand that must be toppled during every car chase.

38. It's easy enough for a cop to plant weed on a "hot" political target.
THINK of the time, and billions of our taxpayers dollars, the Bushwhacks have had to plant operatives here and elsewhere. They surely have bribery networks all over the planet (not to mention drugs/weapons networks and god knows whatall). And I'm sure there are plenty of white racists, fascists and poor cops in Kenya, to do whatever they are told.

I don't know what to suggest as to reacting to stories like this. TOTAL SKEPTICISM, first of all. But it's very like the old 'news' cycle entrapment thing, "When did you stop beating your wife, Senator?" No matter what he answers, the "beating your wife" meme is now out there, in the public consciousness, and will dog his name, even if he is 100% innocent and the sweetest, gentlest husband imaginable.

George Obama--and the Obama name--now has this taint, no matter what the truth is. Next we'll probably hear some asshole in the White House press corps ask President Obama, "In view of the trouble your brother is in, in Kenya, do you favor legalizing marijuana?"--and the taint will grow into a stain--no matter what he answers--and thus two goals are achieved: 1) associating President Obama with "free love, free food, free weed" truly-Christian, hippie values, and 2) cornering him into funding the corrupt, militaristic, failed "war on drugs" profiteers, with billions and billions more of our taxpayer dollars.

So what do we, who are into truth and justice, DO with crap like this? Post it? Discuss it? Give it some credibility? Try to get the facts and counter it? Ignore it? Write angry letters to CNN?

I don't know. Probably "LEGALIZE MARIJUANA!" is the best answer. Push back.

At the least, we should be aware that stories like this are ultimately aimed at robbing ME AND YOU.
