Republicans warned on stimulus plan

Barack Obama, the US president, has warned senate Republicans not to let "modest" differences delay his massive $819bn stimulus plan aimed at reviving the struggling US economy.

The emergency legislation, which begins its passage through the senate on Monday, is set to face opposition from Republicans who have demanded changes to it.

"But what we can't do is let very modest differences get in the way of the overall package moving forward swiftly," Obama said on Monday.

The bill, which could amount to almost $900bn when it is finished, will direct aid to cash-strapped states to boost employment, consumption and social spending.

"The thing I want all of them to remember, and the thing I am thinking of every single day, is the thousands of people being laid off from their jobs right now," he said in an interview with the NBC television network.

"They can't afford politics as usual and old habits are hard to break, but now is the time to break them because we have an urgent situation."

8. well I called Sen Collins office today

and reminded them that * stole an election, called it a mandate and rammed their policies down our throats.

And that after 8 years of complete control of all 3 branches of government, they'd emptied the treasury, trapped us in 2 unwinnable wars and destroyed the economy.

And let them know that re: the stimulus package, they look like a bunch of obstructionist idiots.

That they had destroyed the country. That the PNAC people hijacked our military and our treasury and squandered them trying to take over the world.

And then I got personal. How it had impacted me. How the only job I'd had in the past 7 years was for a rw Kristan Konservative *-loving rethuglican family *small* company. The kind they worship. And how those bastards poisoned me. And harrassed me in my home. And trespassed and assaulted my animals.

How I've been financially ruined by rethug rule and now was going to be forced to sell my home because they'd robbed me my life savings.

I was choking on my outrage, and the poor woman on the line was almost crying, and asking if there was anything they could do to help me. Any agency they could get involved. Anything.

I told her I didn't want to breathe the same air they do. To tell Collins not to block the stimulus package. That I didn't want a letter, I didn't want anything. Except for them to get the eff out of the way. They had their fucking turn. The trashed our country. NOw just get the eff out of the way.

I think she was pretty shaken up. I know I was too upset to call Snowe's office. I'll try that one maybe tomorrow.
