Rove defends Bush policies (says he will not comply with Congressional subpoenas)
Source: Daily Breeze

Karl Rove came to Loyola Marymount University on Tuesday night to talk about the First Amendment, and the students and alumni on hand made the most of it.

One man loudly denounced Rove as a "traitor" before he was escorted out. A woman held up a pair of handcuffs and said she would like to see Rove wearing them.

In their questions, several other audience members seemed to be seeking some sort of contrition or atonement from the former White House adviser.

...

Students quizzed Rove about the CIA leak investigation, reasons behind the invasion of Iraq, and whether he would comply with Congressional subpoenas.

On the last point, he said he would not, and cited Janet Reno, President Clinton's attorney general, as his authority in resisting Congressional infringements on executive privilege.

3. What?

"his authority in resisting Congressional infringements on executive privilege."

does Rover still have "executive privilege" ?

Didn't he lose that when Obama took office?

11. I agree, Glinda.

He should not be claiming ANY privileges.

Like President Obama stated,

NO ONE is above the law!!

These bastards should be held accountable
for their crimes.

4. I made a mistake. I clicked on the link & read the article.
It's just not good for me to get that big a dose of raw sewage from the mind of Karl Rove. Now I'll have to spend the rest of the day pouring water in my ears, trying to rinse off my brain.

to use "executive privilege" against the "executive branch"--legally it makes no sense and he will eventually have to talk, especially as he becomes more isolated.

On Edit: Turley also said that Harriet Meyers is going to have to start talking, too...

10. That's a very good point.
After all, the current Executive has a right to know what was going on before he came into office, because it could very well impact decisions he will have to make while in office.

If Barack says Rove must comply, I don't think there's a court in the land that would dispute that.

Rove is running out of time. Finally.

27. Then you must not be aware of our Extreme Court
They ruled the vote counting must stop and what they rule can not be precedent. They can easily rule that Bush* had/has authority to keep his people from talking.

14. "...cited Janet Reno" -- he IS getting desperate.
They made such fun of Janet Reno and went on and on about what horrible decisions she made on Waco. Why would he listen to Reno? Because she said something he could use?

What slime. I'm so glad they rode his tail Tuesday. Maybe he'll quit giving speeches. He got the same treatment in Iowa for his $40K speech.

I agree that if he is barked at, he will wimp out. Remember how much weight he lost during the Plame hearing? He was scared ****less. If he wasn't trying to hide something, he wouldn't be working so hard to stay out of the courtroom.

Throw him in the pokey until he agrees to honor his subpoena. Enough is enough!

15. I just knew that slimey piece of shit was lying!!!!
He's daring Congress once again. What will Conyers do?? Will he finally grow a set and haul him before the Judiciary Committee using the rule of "inherent contempt"?? Or will Conyers and Co. fold like a cheap Chinese made Wal-Mart folding table? My money would be on the fold once again.

21. Before, Conyers did not have support of the Attorney General's office
You know, that bunch under GWB that believed their job was to protect the president and not represent the people.

I'm hoping that Holder makes good on his word, that he will see to it that Rove either complies or sits his fat ass in jail because he ignores the subpoena.

"The Army Field Manual prohibits `good cop, bad cop,"' Rove said. "All that stuff you see on CSI - the Army Field Manual prohibits it ..."'...

I will own that I know nothing about the Army Field Manual and what it prohibits. Does it really prohibit autopsies? I haven't watched any of the CSI clones & haven't watched the original in a couple of years so I was unaware they had delved into torture.

..."Rove argued that most members of the national media live in Washington and New York and went to eastern schools, and absorb the liberal views of their surroundings...."

Funny, the was no 'liberal' absorption by his idol given all the eastern schools he attended. Other noted non-absorbers rummy - Princeton; scooter - Yale; gonzo - Harvard; Ashcroft - Yale;

Edited on Thu Feb-05-09 09:33 AM by MilesColtrane
Unless Fox News has been officially declared a part of the Executive branch then Rove, as it's employee, is nothing more than a fat, slimy citizen and must comply.
