Chrysler Idling 3 Plants Monday

AUBURN HILLS, Mich. (WXYZ) - Chrysler is set to idle three plants, including the Sterling Heights assembly plant, on Monday.

The other two plants that will be shut down will be the Brampton, Ontario facility and the Belvidere, Illinois plant. The shutdowns will last for at least a week, with the company evaluating whether or not to reopen them on a weekly basis.

A fourth plant, the Conner Avenue plant in Detroit will also closed next week. That plant makes the Viper, and has been closed since December. Officials decided to extend the closure, along with the new shut downs.

Chrysler says the shutdowns are in order to keep output in line with demand. The company will also begin a rotating series of shutdowns designed to ease the financial strain on supplier and workers. The plant closures and shift cuts will ensure that no one site, work group or supply base is down too long.
