APREYKJAVIK, Iceland: The governors of Iceland's central bank have failed to meet Prime Minister Johanna Sigurdardottir's deadline for them to answer her demand to resign.
Sigurdardottir had written to the three governors earlier this week, asking them to reply by Thursday.
The Frrettabladid newspaper on Friday quoted one governor, Ingimundur Fridriksson, as saying they would answer "sooner or later."
He says they had missed Thursday's deadline because one governor, former Prime Minister David Oddsson, was out of the country.
The prime minister appoints governors but has no power to fire them. Sigurdardottir has said she will propose legislation to allow her to replace the governors with a single governor.
