JUNEAU - Alaska Attorney General Talis Colberg has resigned in the wake of state legislators blasting his performance during the "Troopergate" investigation.

"He just explained that it is a tough environment right now," said Gov. Sarah Palin, who appointed Colberg to the job just over two years ago.

In an interview with the Daily News this morning, Palin said Colberg did a great job as attorney general. She talked about his background, coming from the private sector and not government, and said he served the state well.

"It is a harsh political environment right now. You saw what he went through these last couple of weeks with speculation that a couple of the lawmakers wanted to continue to grill him, a couple of the lawmakers not believing, it seems, what he had to say," Palin said. "I just hope this political environment doesn't deter others who want to make a positive difference."

1. Did she just complete a reasonable sentence?
Or has her statement been edited? She's actually IN Alaska, pretending to be governor?

4. Most of the time they edit her and correct her so it's readable.

That's what they did with her interviews.

Either way, that media whore is probably happy as a pig in shite for the attention today. What's it been... 3 or is it 4 days.

She actually said, "you know Colberg did a heckuva jon (wink) and he was like I mean hounded by the filter of the media also but I mean the energy policy and all was and also the McCain campaign aides were creating a hostile element also, but I seriously mean that all pro-America people are having it tough now in this climate and that has an effect also."

2. The one who caused the harsh political climate
is concerned about its effect on politics in her state?? She's so charming. I look forward to her running for national office again.

12. Yes. And iirc, he's a former oil company exec.
He was one of Palin's mainstays. I wonder what the heck she's going to do now.

7. it was a prepared statment, also there again
"The statement from the governor's office quoted Palin as saying (LOL --- did her office really quote her, or did someone write a sentence with a noun and a verb and put her name on it?), "Talis is a highly intelligent, thoughtful and reserved scholar who brought considerable legal knowledge and great personal integrity to the position. I appreciate his willingness to serve, and as the search for a new attorney general begins, I will look for someone with the same strong moral character as Talis. I wish him well in his future endeavors.""

17. thankfully, in these hard times, your hat can rest easy
had Palin tried to articulate anything resembling that statement, it would have come out thusly:

"The attorney there, serving again our great state of Alaska, there also-- progressing it forward in a pro-american way and again, Talis known there to be a lawyer, also....studying and applying those ideas there, also to the great state of Alaska and God's open doors, again. Again, looking for God to show the door to a new also finding the right again, there...person...leading this state in all of our natural resources energy leaders, again! There's a few friends back way back, there...that Wasilla high school, there, who again, I would say, they have their eye on also, Alaska's best thoughts. so in time there.... The attorney general will be also, moving to further leadership and so pleased to serve the great state, also. Again."

10. I agree with your sentiments
but I would rather her not go away. I want her to run for national office. I want the person she is and what she stands for more fully exposed on a national stage. I want the mud slinging. She will never get elected to anything again.

11. Well I agree with you on that one, I don't know how I can personally just
suck it up to see & hear her for the duration of another campaign.
But if it means she slithers away, never to return, I guess I will muster up the strength somehow, for the good of my country that is.

I really really despise her & all she stands for.
She's just like SATAN !!

15. Colberg created the environment

He told public employees to ignore legally issued subpeonas and stonewalled the Troopergate investigation.

Everyone in Alaska was calling for his head. Even the Palin friendy Anchorage Daily News wanted him fired.

Good riddance.

Palin is next.

19. Mudflats: He goes bye-bye in exchange for district projects (allegedly) getting green lights

http://www.themudflats.net/2009/02/10/skullduggery-in-the-alaska-gop-birds-are-singing/

If you believe the little birds that are twittering in Juneau and elsewhere, we’ve got one interesting behind closed doors deal between Sarah Palin, Senate President Gary Stevens, and House Minority Leader Mike Chenault. It goes something like this.

Talis Colberg did not resign. He WAS resigned by Palin. (kerthunk…under the bus)

The Alaska Legislature and the governor can conveniently blame him for any and all wrongdoings in the Troopergate investigation, tie it up in a nice little bow, and transport it far far away from anyone with the last name Palin.

And in exchange for Stevens & Chenault ensuring that there is no further investigation of the Palins or their cohorts regarding the firing of Walt Monegan, the Branchflower Report, or the inconsistencies in the Petumenos report, what do they get from the governor?

In exchange, Stevens and Chenault will not receive vetoes to projects - yet to be named - in their districts.
