GOP Group Threatens to Campaign Against Republican Stimulus Backers
Source: fUX NoyZ

A GOP group is putting Republican lawmakers "on notice," threatening to campaign against anyone who breaks ranks to vote for the more than $800 billion economic recovery package.

The National Republican Trust PAC put out a statement Tuesday claiming it would provide financial support for primary challengers to any stimulus-supporting Republican in the next election.

"Republican Senators are on notice," the group's director Scott Wheeler said in a statement. "If they support the stimulus package we will make sure every voter in their state knows how they tried to further bankrupt voters in an already bad economy."

The release did not name names, but was obviously directed at the three Republican senators who joined Democrats to advance the Senate version of the bill Monday.

Republicans Sens. Arlen Specter of Pennsylvania, and Olympia Snowe and Susan Collins, both from Maine, are expected to vote for the bill Tuesday. Specter is up for re-election next year and Snowe in 2012. Collins was re-elected in 2008 and won't be up again until 2014.

--snip--

But Specter told FOX News Tuesday that Congress must take action "promptly and decisively" to prevent "catastrophe." President Obama gave a similar warning in his prime-time press conference Monday.

"This legislation is a bitter pill to swallow," Specter said. "But we're facing a situation where the current economic problems could turn into another depression like 1929."

6. yet, the accuse Dems/Obma of "buying" votes
by catering to the ... people..... (those people, the ones who elected them? Yeah, those people....by the people, for the people...)

And now they're using money to bribe these folks into voting a certain way?

Interesting.

It must really suck to be one of the few remaining Republicans with a brain and a conscience; knowing you will be killed politically by your own party if you actually do what you were elected to do.

Where Did All the Republicans Go?

Yesterday Gallup released a report on its survey of political party affiliation by voters at the state level. The results, depicted in the map above, show that only five states have a statistically significant majority of voters who identify themselves as Republicans. The data come from interviews last year with “more than 350,000 U.S. adults as part of Gallup Poll Daily tracking.”

Gallup’s map has popped up a a number of blogs and been the subject of

Funny how is the republican party going to get rid of the 3 moderate northeastern republicans. These republicans just don't get it. Ok get right wing republicans to vote for them and the democratics will win. Three more seats for the dem's. Go ahead make their day. That is the problem with the republican party and why they lost before. We want both parties to put the country first and not the party. Shame on the republicans.

22. No-brainer when you're spending TARP money to do so...
It's a WIN-WIN for them.

http://robertreich.blogspot.com/2009/01/how-you-and-i-are-paying-wall-street-to.html

How You and I Are Paying Wall Street to Lobby Congress to Go Easy on Wall Street

The new administration and Congress are busy preparing the second tranche of bailout money for Wall Street -- TARP II -- at the same time they're developing a new set of regulations to make sure Wall Street doesn't get into this kind of mess again. But will the old politics intrude?

==snip==

Yet what's happened to the Wall Street campaign contributions and to the lobbyists? They're still going strong. We now know that many of the financial giants that have been bailed out by taxpayers continue to finance a platoon of Washington lobbyists, who are at this moment trying to influence TARP II and the next attempt to regulate Wall Street. In effect, your money and mine, and that of all other taxpayers, is paying these lobbyists to push Congress in a direction we have every reason to believe is not in our interests but in the continued interests of Wall Street. Citigroup, the recipient of $45 billion of taxpayer money so far, is still fielding "an army" of Washington lobbyists, according to the New York Times. Its lobbyists are working on a host of issues, including the bailout. In the fourth quarter of 2008, when it got its first infusion of bailout money, Citi spent $1.77million on lobbying fees. During the last three months of 2008, at least seven other firms receiving bailout funds (American Express, Capital One, Goldman Sachs, KeyCorp, Morgan Stanley, PNC and Bank of New York Mellon) lobbied the government about the bailout.

Republicans are hopeless. That’s why I left the Party 16 years ago. I’m a conservative independent. It’s the only place I find refuge.

I hope Spectre, Snow, and Collins rot in hell

And I hope you can someday master the art of spelling Specter & Snowe

The national party leadership will never allow this they will simply denounce any who try & even actively engage in character assasination/negative propaganda against thowe who will try .

Face it folks the party is of the opinion that the rank & file of the base are to stupid to wipe ,flush & wash their hands in the proper order when we use the toilet. their attitude is that where else we gonna go? Sadly they are not getting the message that being Democrat lite doesn’t get you any respect from the Rats party or the base.

Congrats! You've mastered the act of wiping your azz. And yes, it appears the party is correct in assuming that the base are to stupid to spell too.

Agreed. If you are going to be a liberal, at least where the proper label

30. Group pledges to fight GOP senators who support stimulus
Source: CNN

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- An influential conservative political action committee is pledging to support primary challenges to any Republican senator who backs the economic stimulus package -- the latest public show of dissatisfaction from the right over the massive measure before Congress.

Three GOP senators voted for the $838 billion compromise version of the package that the Senate approved Tuesday, but all three have said they might not vote for the final version.

"The American people don't want this trillion-dollar political payoff that will just line the pockets of non-governmental organizations who supported Obama in the election," said Scott Wheeler, the executive director of The National Republican Trust PAC, an organization that calls for less government spending and lower taxes.

"Republican senators are on notice," he said. "If they support the stimulus package, we will make sure every voter in their state knows how they tried to further bankrupt voters in an already bad economy."

But Specter, Collins, and Snowe are all from blue states . . . so if they succeeded in knocking one of them out in favor of a more conservative Republican, wouldn't they just be handing the seat to a Democrat?

Perhaps we should support this group.

I mean, look what the ideological purge has done to the Republican Party so no surprise, but Collins and Snow's state has gone Dem in the last 5 Presidential elections. They want true conservatives running for those seats. I mean I sure as HELL hope they get em cause they will be 2 Dem pick ups easy.

Like you, I am baffled. Oh well, more seats for us.

34. Today the right wing GOP is on the wrong side of history
they allowed their libertarian, fiscally responsible, somewhat moderate (1952-1976) party be taken over by the far right, the fundamentalists, the MIC and the greediest laissez faire capitalists. They will now reap what they have sewn. They are on the verge of spending another extended era in the wilderness.

Unless the rest of us fuck it up and give them another chance.

35. Looks like the same kind of targeting that the NRA has done . . .
and the CIA before it with Sen. Church and others who were concerned with

our intelligence agencies - MKULTRA, COINTELPRO, COUPS ALL OVER THE WORLD.

Also, MIC has targeted Senators who were opposed to giving most of our taxpayer

dollars over to weapons production.

What we ultimately end up with is more gun nuts, more hawks and more people who

want secrecy in government.

"Public Support for Stimulus Package Unchanged at 52%
Seven in 10 favor some type of stimulus legislation

by Lydia Saad

PRINCETON, NJ -- Fifty-two percent of Americans interviewed Wednesday night are in favor of Congress passing a roughly $800 billion economic stimulus package; 38% are opposed. These figures are nearly identical to those measured in Gallup polling last week, right before passage of the bill in the U.S. House of Representatives, and are also in line with public support in early January.

-snip-

According to the new Feb. 4 USA Today/Gallup poll, 70% of Democrats nationwide favor the plan and 18% oppose it. Among Republicans, 24% are in favor and 72% are opposed -- nearly the reverse of the Democrats' position. Political independents fall somewhat closer to Democrats than to Republicans in their views, with 55% in favor..."
