Man held at U.S. Capitol, had rifle in truck: police

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - A man who drove up to the U.S. Capitol complex and told police he had a delivery for President Barack Obama was arrested by police after telling them he had a rifle in his truck, police said on Tuesday.

The man "told officers that he had a delivery for President Obama so the officers began to question him further and he admitted to having a rifle in his truck," said Kimberly Schneider, a spokeswoman for the U.S. Capitol Hill Police.

CNN showed police removing a rifle from his truck.

Schneider said the man was taken into custody at the security checkpoint without incident and charges were pending. Schneider declined to identify the individual.

The irrational hatred stirred up by the right-wing daily hatefest on talk radio nationwide needs to be directly challenged as the source of stirring up the weak-minded to do harm to the president.

I don't care what they legally need to do to keep Obama safe, whatever resources they deem necessary they should get.

Really and no fucking around, besides getting elected, what has Obama done as president? Has he ordered the troops into two invasions? Has he wrecked the economy? What has Obama done to merit some nut with a rifle piling into his pickup to do God knows what?

And yet, for eight years and longer, we've had it dinned into our ears that we're irrational Bush haters, with no reason to despise our popular wartime president who kept the country sort of safe for most of seven years as long as you don't count anthrax attacks, shooters in churches and so forth.

20. This is an interesting story –…

and one that will be interesting to follow up. I am interested to see what he is actually charged with, how he pleads, and how the justice system deals with him, if at all.

It is fun to poke at the freeper mind-set, but I really do have a problem envisioning any freeper this totally stupid. Oh yeah, I’m sure they exist, but hell I live around a bunch of these people and I can’t think of a one this totally deranged.

However, I do believe in “social engineering”. I am always suspicious of stories that just somehow don’t ring “true”. Could someone be setting up another “lone gunman” scenario? The “crazed” freeper, blasting away on a quiet spring morning? Trial balloon, maybe?
