Gay marriage supporters vow to file second complaint over Mormon church's role in Prop. 8
Source: L. A. Times

Opponents of the measure, which banned gay marriage in California, said today that they plan to file a second complaint with the state alleging the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints deliberately did not disclose its financial contributions to the Yes on 8 campaign.

Keep the heat on them. Never, ever let up. We've been in a cultural civil war for a very long time. Time to stand up, fight like hell, and not put up with this bullshit anymore.

19. I admit to being one of those who thought
Prop 8 would never pass. It seemed crazy to me. Never again. I sent my money to the Obama campaign but in hindsight, I should have given some to the NO on 8 movement. I really never expected this to pass. I think there are more out there like me. We are awake now and engaged. Not gonna happen again.

before it is overturned. Especially seeing the numbers changed in the past two votes on the issue.

5. I hope this is punished some how.
I don't know how. I'm just so tired of seeing smug LDS spokespersons coyly bleating about their first amendment rights to define marriage.

7. This is the type of homophobic bigot we need to guard against...
Edited on Wed Feb-11-09 10:50 PM by Zhade
I got this email on Facebook from a former employee where I work (he was fired, partially for this kind of harassment; I alerted Facebook and blocked him. Keep in mind he knows I have a son):

"Subject: A Small FYI....and How You have Made a Difference

Well fatman...I have Been Doing Internet marketing For awhile...and I actually Got very good at it. A Few Months ago a Measure Prop8 came to the voters of california. A Measure that Already went through then 4 judges overturned to Votes of 4 million (Regardless of the measure the 4 overturing 4 million I would have an issue with) and Being as the Societies that Did Embrace Homosexual Unions Fell, and if a couple wants to raise Children (I did this for the kids, but you did help!) they should do it the way it has been done since day 1, and not experiment by Exposing
the Child to "Same Sex parents" in all honesty, we dont know how that would effect a kid, Allot of Speculation, but We really dont know. Well I decided to do the marketing on the Prop8 campaign. The big Undecided factor was the spanish/latino community and I never marketed towards them due to the language barrier. But being as These kids deserve our very best, and We need no experiment with Same Sex parents, I went beyond what I thought My best was and Did the marketing In spanish (Wth Some Help) With Every Fiber of my being i can Honestly say I (We, being as you served as my muse) made a difference.

I dont care what you perverted sexual deviates do in your rooms, but
The raising of a child Is sacred and Shouldnt be an experiment. We voted on the measure once...and then Twice (I like the witch Hunt the Prop8 opposition had on the contributors of the measure; what if prop8 failed and the Supporters of the measure Did the same thing and went after those who Supported the Opposition? Different Ball game ey?)

So YOU are gay and You made a huge difference regardless if you believe it or not"

Complete fucking asshole, of course. Note the clear lack of education.

We will win against these creeps. Never give up!

10. Hetereosexuals are 100X more likely to sexually abuse children . ..
than homosexuals are ---

In fact, in Hawaii, homosexuals were esteemed for their care of orphans -- !!!

All facts that the idiot who wrote to you is obviously unaware of ---

I dont care what you perverted sexual deviates do in your rooms, but
The raising of a child Is sacred and Shouldnt be an experiment.

From "same-sex -- marriage in the United States
Focus on the Facts" -- Sean Cahill, PH.D
Lexington Books -- 2004
See: Footnote

A 1998 Study in the Journal of the American Medical Association found that 90% of pedophiles are men, and 95% of these individuals are hetereosexual.

Research has indicated that gay men and lesbians are less likely than heteeosexual to sexually abuse children.

Perhaps the most egregious and damaging claim promulgaed by anti-gay groups is the claim that homosexuality is intrinisically linked to pedophiia and child sexual abuse.
The social science research on sexual orientation and child sexual abuse clearly disproves the claim that homosexuals are more likely to molest children. A 1998 study in the Journal of the American Medical Assocation found that 90% of pedophiles are men, and 95% of these individuals are hetereosexual. One researcher explained this statistic by noting, "Gay men desire consensual sexual relations with other adult men. Pedophiles are usually adult men who are sexually attracted to pre-pubescent children. They are rarely sexually attracted to other adults. In fact, research has indicated that gay men and lesbians are LESS likely than heterosexuals to sexually abuse children. Two studies that examined the sexual orientation of convicted child molesters found that less than 1% in one study and 0% in the other were lesbian or gay. One psychologist reviewed the existing social science literature on the relationship between sexuality and child sexual abuse and found that "a gay man is no more likely than a straight man to perpetrate sexual activity with children." Further, "cases of perpetration of sexual behavior with a pre-pubescent child by an adult lesbian are virtually nonexistent."

Gay rights activists, like all advocates for children's welfare, oppose child sexual abuse and support equitable age of consent laws that help prevent and punish such abuse.

At least 110,000 children are waiting to be adopted in the US. Approximately 588,000 children are currently in foster care. Barring gay men and lebians from adopting or foster parenting decreases the number of potential suitable homes for children in need.
Children who remain in foster care for much of their childhood, as do tens of thousands of American children, are more likely to have emotional problems. Some children in foster care live in 20 or more homes by the time they reach the age of 18. Barring gay men and lesbians from adopting or foster parenting is not simply unjust and unethical; it also decreases the number of potential suitable homes for children in need.
Research shows that children raised by gay and lesbian parents are not disadvantaged vis-a-vis their peers raised by hetereosexual parents.

Footnote 65 -- p.123
A review of 352 medical records of children evaluated for sexual abuse during a 12-month period at a Denver chidlren's hospital found that less than 1% had been abused by a gay man or a lesbian. Of 269 adult perpetrators of child abuse identified among the 352 cases of abuse, only two were gay or lesbian. The vast majority of the children in the study (82%) "were suspected of being abused by a man or a woman who was, or had been, in a hetereosexual relationship with a relative of the child." And the review concluded that in this sample, " a child's risk of being molested by his or her relative's heterosexual partner is over 100X greater by someone who might be identifiable as being homosexual, lesbian, or bisexual."
Jenny, C., and Roesler, T.A. (1994)
Are children at risk for sexual abuse by homosexuals? Pediatrics. 94(1).p.44.
In an earlierstudy of convicted male child molesters in Massachusetts, none of the 175 men were found to have an exclusively homosexual adult sexual orientation or to be primarily attracted to other adult men.
Groth, A.N., and Birnbaum, H.J. (1978).
Adult sexual orientation and attraction to underage persons.
Archives of Sexual Behavior.7(3).pp.175-181.

Also : The right-wing "Family Research Council" notes/confirms findings that "almost all child sexual abuse is committed by men."

8. Presume MSM has dropped the Prop 8 story by now??? But . . .
how heartily were they unveiling the Mormon Church's role in this --

or how often now do they bring it up?

I miss Ted Turner's CNN on these kinds of stories cause he used to really

The state Supreme Court set the date 05 March to begin oral arguments. Jerry Brown will be spearheading the attack.

and should be declared invalid.

pretty solid argument too. It oughta win.
but even if so it will be only by one vote.
we know who will vote to uphold it.
it will be very close. we'll see how it goes.

Can you imagine if a vote on Segregation or Voting Rights had been left

to a Proposition in the Southern states?

This is a precedent which should be soundly defeated --- !!!

9. Sad to see the anti-gay comments left at the LA Times . . .
Shocks you ever once in a while to read crap like that and realize how many

backward/unelightened folks there are in America still!!

However, one was saying that he's a Mormon and that the church let the members

donate individually to exercise their own judgment. On the other hand, there

must have been some kind of a signal -- a direction -- to those members and if

that can be found -- Ooops!

Keep in mind, as well, that the Mormon Church and RCC Church campaigned against

the Equal Rights Amendment with tax-exempt dollars--!!!

contribute to the human rights campaign, to which the Californians Aganst Hate website links.

20. The Catholic "Church" actually spent more money than the Mormon "Church."
However, The Vatican is a much harder target.

22. It was the Knights of Columbus, not the Vatican
that spent the money. The church doesn't have any money because it's paying off all the child-rape victims.

The Mormon "church" didn't spend so much. It just ordered its members to donate directly. Mormons in Utah alone gave over $2.5 million -- at the "suggestion" of the church.
