George W. Bush to give talk in Calgary
Updated Thu. Feb. 12 2009 7:38 PM ET

The Canadian Press

CALGARY -- A Calgary audience might be the first group to hear George W. Bush's take on the state of the world since he stepped down as U.S. president earlier this year.

Bush is to speak to an anticipated audience of 1,500 at a private event in the city on March 17, according to organizers Andy McCreath and Christian Darbyshire.

/snip/

"I think he's probably nervous about how he'll be received, and so Calgary's a safe place," he said, pointing out the city is very conservative and pro-American.

/snip/

The event is not open to the public or media.

44. Houston...
Edited on Fri Feb-13-09 09:27 AM by Baby Snooks
It is, as the late Sybil Leek described it as she fled back to Florida, a karmic cesspool. Houston's lots of fun. Once you learn to avoid the cesspool.

It was founded, by the way, by two con artists. The Allen brothers. Who convinced quite a few fools that a mosquito-infested swamp nestled along a winding alligator-infested bayou was a tropical paradise. The only tropical thing about it is the 150% humidity during the summers.

About the only thing that it has attracted since then are con artists and fools looking for paradise. Ken Lay. So many, many others. One who we called the Toad Queen. She ran a Ponzi scheme. Some of our more illustrious "pillars of the community" were involved in that one. And not as victims. Including the mayor's wife. We called him Big Daddy. She was sort of like Maggie the Cat. The Toad Queen liked to collect toads. You know, ceramic ones and as the money started pouring, crystal ones. So we called her the Toad Queen. She offered 35% interest on her investments. Quite a few made quite a bit of money. She went to jail. They went back to hobnobbing with the Bushes. Birds of a feather as they say. Lots of birds in Houston along with lots of mosquitoes. Huge mosquitoes. Often mistaken as birds. Even the mosquitoes are con artists. What looks like a friendly little bird suddenly zooms in for the kill.

Occasionally you get a con artist who doesn't do well in Houston for some reason. So they move to Dallas.

51. Well, Calgarians won't give up their socialized health care
They also have an extensive public transit system, a high quality public school board, a public university, and several Liberals in the provincial legislature. Calgary is conservative by Canadian standards, but there are a lot of nuances.

Protesters in Calgary risk being run down by a pickup truck.

Mind you, even Conservatives in Canada don't approve of the job Bush did. They will rally around an ideological comrade though, I suspect.

28. They're letting him into the country? Does he have to get a special waiver
or something for the DUI? Canada is usually VERY strict about letting convicted felons (even lesser convictions in another country for something that would be a felony in Canada) into their country, and they take even very old DUI's very seriously.

I think it'd be great to see him turned back at the border!

36. Good question, even if it's rhetorical.
The rule seems too harsh to me but it's Canadians' right to have it. If they want it to be respected, however, they should enforce it in the same way for everybody. You can get a waiver if you apply for it but I'd be surprised to learn that Junior went through the process.

30. Two Bushes and Bubba of Arabia...
It's comforting to know that George W Bush didn't retire and instead has joined the private luncheon/dinner lecture circuit.

It will be interesting to see what he is paid. Bill Clinton's last going rate was $800,000. I don't think anyone knows what George HW Bush's going rate is. We may not find out what George W Bush's is.

No doubt, probably after the next natural disaster, we will be treated to photos of two Bushes and Bubba of Arabia. One big happy family.

For an old-timer who used to be a cheerleader, assures us that they are off the juice and the cocaine and needs money to "... replenish the old coffers"

$10 for 15 minutes would be generous but you wouldn't have to wait in line.

42. Well, the oil will run out and what will support the oligarchy?
You have to support the world oligarchy somehow when the oil runs out. So what's left? Gold and diamonds. The Rothschilds control the diamonds. So all that's left is the gold. My money's on the diamonds as the better investment. Easier to smuggle. As the Gabors found out.

Tied into this is Nixon taking us off the gold standard. No doubt at some point someone will put us back on the gold standard. Gold of course will probably be $2,000 an ounce at that point.

Patterns exist for one reason. To make us aware. No one notices the patterns. They're too busy waving the little partisan flags and pointing the little partisan fingers. Which is how this country was hijacked a long time before those planes on 9/11 were.

This is a true story. But for the obvious reason was never printed or run by the American media. The Bushes don't sue you. They put you out of business. Which Katherine Graham probably knew when she told Ben Bradlee to go ahead and run the story. We need more Katherine Grahams in this country.
