SATSUMA, Fla. (AP) — Investigators were treating the disappearance of a 5-year-old north Florida girl as an abduction and continued searching for the child Thursday. The Putnam County Sheriff's Office said investigators assume Haleigh Cummings was abducted because house-to-house searches of the neighborhood Wednesday found no evidence that she wandered away. Haleigh's father Ronald Cummings also said he didn't believe she had left their home in the middle of the night.

Haleigh was last seen Monday night in her father's mobile home in a heavily wooded area north of Satsuma, a community along the St. Johns River about 70 miles north of Orlando. The doublewide mobile home with a screened-in front porch was blocked off with police tape Thursday. Nearby, a team of about 30 police officers and sheriff's deputies walked shoulder-to-shoulder through the thick underbrush and palmettos. Each carried a machete to clear the brush. At times, they would stop and use a shovel to check when they found fresh dirt. Haleigh was reported missing when her father returned home from work early Tuesday. His girlfriend told a local newspaper she had been sleeping next to Haleigh when she woke up and discovered the child was gone.

Didn't the mother sound exactly like S.S. in her pleas to get her baby back? Never saw a real tear from her either. I don't believe for a second that the whole thing wasn't staged. I'm just as cynical as you are. And in these cases, we are usually justified in our cynicism. It's only a matter of time before the poor girls body turns up and a family member is charged. Too many monsters on this planet.

and relatives or people that know them than they are from the stranger in the black sedan. I wonder if police apply any of the techniques to detect lying or deception that are shown on the new tv show "Lie to Me"?

I did right from the get go. I don't know why, but it's just a hunch. I could be wrong. I hope the find the girl alive, but 48 hours have passed and we all know what that usually means. :(

I do wonder about the girlfriend too. It says she was only 17 years old. Kind of young to be in a relationship with a man who has a 5 year old daughter. I don't know how old he is. It is all rather suspicious.

8. The father was way too upset to be involved in any type of kidnapping

I don't know about anyone else but he was at work, called 911 as soon as he arrived, and even went on Nancy Grace's pro-prosecution show. But he very well could be but based on being visibly upset like that I believe he is telling the truth. I have no clue about what the others involved were up to.
