Agents raid offices of state senator's employer

Associated Press - February 17, 2009 6:55 PM ET

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - Federal agents have raided the Memphis brokerage where state Senate Commerce Chairman Paul Stanley works, but the Germantown Republican says he's not been accused of any wrongdoing.

Stanley is a wealth manager for broker-dealer Stanford Group Co. He said his assistant called him Tuesday morning to tell him federal agents were searching the offices.

The search came the same day the Securities and Exchange Commission filed a federal lawsuit in Dallas alleging fraud by the company's owner, financier R. Allen Stanford, and two executives who had offices in Memphis.

The SEC said the fraud centered on an $8 billion certificates of deposit program that promised "improbable" interest rates and a mutual fund program with false performance data.

1. Man...
This thing is gonna roll up a lot of folks. Just wait until you see the job ads from the SEC. Then you know that a lot of folks have a lot of doom on their personal horizons.

And as far as Stanford is concerned: Use the CIA's Directorate of Operations to find him. When they find Stanford's bolt hole, task a surveillance sat to watch him, or a Predator. Learn his routines. Then, we have SEALS, who are very, very good at "Parakeet Ops" as they were known in the days of The Nam. Infil by Sea or Air, with either a HAHO or HALO drop, snatch him, exfil to a waiting sub and bring him back to face the music. With his ill-gotten gains.

It will be a teaching moment for a lot of folks considering the same thing. It will also be a very good use of resources.

Oh, and I would not mind a bit if they cut a deal with him to get him to sing. The news today, about his involvements with Cornyn, point to the very real possibility that this rabbit hole goes very, very deep.

2. Why not have a predator drop a bomb on his head?
Wouldn't that save a lot of time, money, and manpower? How about napalm? Burn everything within 25 miles of where we think he is.

3. Cornyn??? Got a link?
Clearly I missed some of the juicy stuff.

I assume Stanford isn't using a passport with an RFID (did I get that right?) chip?

4. He got out...
With not so much as a fare-thee-well to the Immigration and Customs folks. As best as they can determine, he just got on one of his jets and hauled ass.

I am sure some cash emoluments changed hands to ensure safe and unimpeded passage.

5. Wonder if we'll ever hear from him again.
I see movies, Law and Order episodes...and oh, could Boston Legal have had fun with this.

My oh my. Let's see if the M$M will have the balls to start reporting on this and drop the nonsense with small time players like Burris.

6. Politicians and Profit Machines...
In Tennessee Profit Care comes ahead of Patient Care. http://www.wisecountyissues.com Phil Bredesen need not apply to HHS until he gets his state straightened out.
