CEOs Hit Rock Bottom, Less Popular Than Congress
Source: rasmussenreports.com

The chief executive officers of the nation's largest corporations are viewed favorably by just 22% of American adults, lower even than the ratings earned by members of Congress .

The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey shows that 26% now have a favorable opinion of the nation's legislators. Both CEOs and those in Congress are viewed Very Favorably by only three percent (3%) of Americans.

Stockbrokers and financial analysts (37%) as well as journalists and reporters (38%) are held in higher regard. Lawyers (41%) and bankers (44%) do even better.

I wonder about these...

Among Democrats, 41% view members of Congress favorably while just 15% say the same about corporate CEOs. By contrast, 31% of Republicans have a favorable opinion of CEOs, but only 14% feel the same way about those in Congress.

Most Democrats (56%) also have a favorable opinion of journalists and reporters. That view is shared by 35% of unaffiliateds but only 19% of Republicans.

Why do so many Dem's have a favorable view of jounalists? And so negative from Repukes? All the journalists I see on the corporate media are pro-Repuke.

1. 22% ... isn't that the same percentage that thinks Bush did a great job?
Just saying.

2. Because the Repukes suffer the delusion that the employees are the bosses in media...

In almost any other industry, they will say that the CEO and the execs are the ones setting policies and direction of the company.

However, since the right wingers perceive a few token journalists as "liberal", they then extrapolate that the whole company they work for must be "liberal" and have a "liberal" agenda. Of course those wanting to move the center to the right keeping fueling that misguided and illogical notion.

Even though I think the corporate media at times favors right wing policies when it suits them, I think a better way to characterize them is that they are all about making money, even if it means turning out a poor product in terms of keeping people informed. They only turn out a product to maximize eyeballs and to get more dollars for that. They also bend their policies to support those that promote the notions that allow them to continue to not be subject to regulation by government, etc.

So technically the corporate media isn't really "right wing" any more than it is "left wing". It is trying to make money, and continuing to build their empire to do that without any rules. Anything that helps that set of goals is what they will push out as "the truth", and ignore anything else that doesn't make them media, or questions the rules (or lack of rules) that they work under.

I think it helps when interacting with right wingers on message boards to frame it this way, as then you push them into a corner of saying that the media is pushing a "left wing" agenda, when it really has no basis for truth or would appear to anyone with an understanding of economics as being illogical to push agendas that don't make money for them (at least by their own saying when folks like Rush say that progressive talk radio is doomed to failure). They would have to argue that the media don't operate under the goals of capitalism but ideology instead, which is what they should be argued is needed for industries to be profitable, if they want to be logically consistent.

6. Well summarized. They are more pro-unfettered media consolidation and growth
than pro-Republican. It just so happens that the Republican agenda is on board with this and gets the favored coverage.

That being said we are unlikely to see either the Dem's or Rep's take on the media conglomerates anytime soon.
