(Iraq) Shoe-thrower's supporters rally on eve of trial
Source: AP

BAGHDAD (AP) -- Supporters of the Iraqi shoe-thrower are making themselves heard, on the eve of his trial.

There was a protest today in Baghdad by about 100 supporters of the Iraqi TV journalist who threw his shoes at then-President George W. Bush at a news conference.

A lawyer for the journalist says the defense will ask for a postponement when court convenes tomorrow. He also plans to ask for the man's release -- describing the episode as a "spontaneous" act "against the president of the state that occupies Iraq."

The journalist has been in custody since the mid-December outburst. He's become a cult figure across the Muslim world. Thousands have hailed him as a hero, and demanded his release for what they saw as an act of patriotism.

3. If Bush had been alone
At the podium I think this would be over by now. But the Prime Miniser was there too and that is what they are upset about. I say his heart was in the right place so let him go. Bush was lucky it wasn't Shaq's shoe. Bush gets shoes thrown at him President Obama gets shoes signed by basketball players. LOL!

4. we should expect a biased trial
He was even tortured according to his brother. Iraqi authorities hate him because he offended their friend Bush.

2. The article says he's a "cult figure across the Muslim world". Understatement.
He's a hero & he's gotten applause from Americans as well as Brits (that I'm aware of, & probably many other countries, as well)).
