NH's (Congresswoman Carol) Shea-Porter urges review of KBR contract
Source: AP

WASHINGTON (AP) New Hampshire Congresswoman Carol Shea-Porter has written a letter to Defense Secretary Robert Gates asking why defense contractor KBR Inc., was recently awarded a $35.4 million contract involving electrical work in Iraq.

KBR is under investigation by the Department of Defense Inspector General for the deaths of 18 Americans who were electrocuted in buildings that KBR held a contract to maintain. Investigators have reopened five cases, and one has been classified as ''negligent homicide.''

Shea-Porter, joined in the letter by 18 other House members, has urged Gates to conduct a thorough review of the contract.

Last year, the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform investigated the problem of electrocutions in U.S. facilities in Iraq. They found that KBR was alerted to the deficiencies, but failed to take corrective action.

2. That's a good point, although I didn't expect much while * was in office.
With the new Obama Administration in charge, it seems things are happening much quicker, however.

I'd also like to know why none of the "fiscally conservative" Republicans are actively looking into the missing money in Iraq. There's millions and millions unaccounted for, millions more was paid out of shoddy/substandard work, etc.

If they're so concerned about our finances, why aren't they trying to find all this money?

7. Don't be stupid. This contract was recently awarded. It should have
been shitcanned the next day, if not sooner.

8. Don't be an assh0le
Cheney's influence will take years to erase. The same people are still at work at the Pentagon.

9. Well, since I'm conversing with an even bigger 'asshole' let me explain
that Obama has to reverse couse on every plan and idea currently cooked up in the Pentagon and the military. To even let them be awarding contracts right now without oversight is stupid. To let this go to KBR in the first place was criminal. To let it stand for even one day gave the wrong impression.

Now just go crawl back under your rock.

10. Ok, wise guy.
Say you're a qualified contractor and just happen to get the contract and have the capability to take over operations.

Tell me how you're going to implement your operation in the next few weeks.

Remember, we have to be out of there in 16 months. This is a one-time deal.

I don't like KBR either.

Don't propose changes unless you have solutions. The Obama Administration inherited a rigged system. All they can do is send qualified inspectors to make sure the job is done right, document any failures and make sure any criminal activity is properly addressed.

12. Their work for the past 8 years speaks for itself. So do the dead bodies
of military personnel who only wanted to take a shower.

Your rock is calling, it's saying 'come home, you're making an ass out of yourself".

14. Easy for you to say.
You're not the one having to solve the problems they caused.

Until you can come up with a better solution, I'll just ignore you.

15. FANTASTIC! That means you're going away, right?
Solutions? Find a company who will carry out the work competently and isn't looking to aid and abet in the financial free-for-all that the bush** administration was running.

How hard was that?

16. First you have to get KBR to fix the work we already paid them to do.
and make them do it up to code, otherwise we end up paying twice for the same work. The new contractor is going to have to fix the mess that KBR left if we just can KBR. Make KBR pay for it.

3. Huzzah Shea-Porter!
Homegirl's doing us blue folk proud in New Hampshire... although shocking that 'only' 18 house members were along with it. No one else is curious?

20. She rocks
I met Carol in 2005. At the time, we were both candidates for the Dem nomination in NH-01 (I dropped out later). Over the course of dozens of forums, and over countless cups of bad coffee at Dem meetings, we became friends. She is a truly decent and genuine person. NH is fortunate to have her and Paul Hodes representing us in the House
