wgn NEWSThe library on DePaul University's Lincoln Park campus was evacuated this morning following a bomb threat, university officials said.
It's unclear how the university learned of the threat, but said it only affected the John T. Richardson Library, 2350 N. Kenmore Ave., and did not interfere with operations in other campus buildings, said Denise Mattson, a DePaul spokeswoman.
At 11:50 a.m., she said the university had learned about the threat "within the last hour."
Mattson said the university notified students about the threat via its public address systems at campus buildings. An e-mail about the threat was also sent to faculty, staff and student employees, she said.
Chicago police were on the scene.
"The police Bomb and Arson unit and Public Safety are searching the building, which is expected to be closed until at least mid-afternoon," according to a statement on DePaul's Web site.
"Members of the DePaul community are advised not to call the university operator or other DePaul offices for information," the site stated.
Updated information about the threat will be available on the university's Web site, www.depaul.edu.
