Ariz. AG asks for Pima County's transportation election ballots
Source: Arizona Daily Star

The state Attorney General’s office has made an “informal” request that Pima County Treasurer
turn over the ballots from the 2006 Regional Transportation Authority election.

An employee of the Attorney General’s office contacted the attorney for Beth Ford, Pima County Treasurer,
to see if she would give him the ballots, said John Richardson, Ford’s attorney.

The ballots are the subject of a court hearing scheduled for Monday. Ford has asked Pima County Superior Court Judge
Charles Harrington whether she should destroy the ballots, as called for in state law, or keep them as investigations
and questions about the election continue.

Richardson said he would bring the new request to the judge’s attention Monday, and leave the decision up to him.
Ford has not argued for the preservation or destruction of the ballots, she simply wants a court order either way,
she has said. Richardson said the same is true of the latest request, he would alert the judge and leave the decision to Harrington.

1. Highly recommended! This is very likely a case of a programmer fixing the election.
This is all on Brad Blog, the alleged confessions of the programmer, and so on. If they can count the votes and show that the results are not what they were alleged to be by the computer, who knows what could come of it.

Here's the Brad article:

2. This could be big
It is a shift on Goddard's part, even if it's only an informal request. If there's resistance, will he push harder?

Prior to this election there was a stalemate in Tucson politics between the Growth Lobby and the New Urbanists. The auto dealers, real estate moguls and construction companies kept trying to build freeways, expressways and overpasses, and the voters kept turning them down by wide margins. The Urbanists tried to pass a transportation initiative with light rail, commuter rail, expanded bus service and neighborhood road maintenance, and the Growth Lobby killed it.

Then this RTA thing passed and it shook loose a lot of money for the Growthers, and a scaled down trolley for the Urbanists. Might have passed on its own, might not have. But something doesn't smell right about it, and the Pima County Democratic Party has been trying to find out for years. So far without much help from Goddard. Is that about to change?

5. We need
Those freeways and overpasses! This city has some horrible traffic problems. 40 minutes yesterday to get from swan and broadway to swan and sunrise. These morons refuse to put in a cross town freeway or expressway. And what is wrong with growth? Tucson will grow no matter what just due to our location. And light rail would never help in this town. The trolley which my org. works on will be little used and will solve nothing here.

8. Hey Ptah,
Look at all your hearts! (one is from me)

Thanks for posting this - I have been pretty busy lately and not following all the local news. I know Bill was pushing to get the AG more involved.

10. Aww, thanks for the heart.
My star expired before the fund drive started so I had none to give away.

I am hopeful the investigation begins in earnest.
