Fresh off a grueling budget battle in his state, California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger said Saturday that if fellow Republican governors threatening to turn down stimulus funds follow through on their pledge, he'd be happy to have their share.

"Everyone has their own way of thinking," Schwarzenegger said of those governors in an interview with POLITICO at the National Governors Association's annual meeting. "I just hope they give me their funding."

Schwarzenegger supports President Barack Obama's $778 billion stimulus, but four Republican governors have said they may reject some of the stimulus funds

Seriously, will the Thugs have a chance again to prevail in a non-rigged election in our lifetimes? I hope that the Greens or Peace and Freedom or a coalition of the more progressive parties become the the other major American political party while the Thugs go the way of the Whigs and the Know Nothing parties, into deserved oblivion.

If people only realized that the Thugs of today are the political descendants of the despised "Tories" or the Tory Party that wanted the original 13 American "states" to continue to be dependent colonies of England, basically to be controlled fiefdoms ripe for exploitation by the super rich of the 18th Century.

The Tories philosophy was similar to the Thugs of today. The workers and "middle class" supported and obeyed their masters without question and paid taxes at the their whim.

Arnold's no favorite of mine, but he knows which side his bread is buttered on (note his quick scurry to the center after he lost his hard-right proposition slate a few years back). "in the red" for awhile-like Fox News & others-& then we will begin to profit. Electrifying the rural areas was considered crazy at the time, who can afford such a luxury during the Depression? The health & wealth of all nations are not soley found in bank accounts, it is also found in dependable transport of goods, medicines & food, & in the availability of clean water to drink & bathe & dwellings that are located in a stable-enough area so people aren't forced to flee or fight for their lives every other day.

The voters of California share a huge responsibilty for this mess starting with the passage of Prop 13 back in 1978 that changed the proerty tax structure and mandated a 2/3 majority for all budgets. We've passed costly initiatives that sound good without bothering to read the bottom line - how much they will cost. When they pas the state is mandated to fund them.

There is talk of redoing our constitution. Here's an article from today's San Francisco Chronicle.
