MCOTBANGKOK, Feb 23 (TNA) -- Thousands of police and military personnel are preparing to move into the Government House compound Monday evening as anti-government protesters loyal to United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship (UDD) are gearing up for a a large rally aimed at ousting the two-month-old coalition government of Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva.
Senior Bangkok Metropolitan police officers early Monday held talks with Deputy Prime Minister Suthep Thaugsuban and Minister attached to Prime Minister's Office Satit Wonghnongtaey on the planned UDD demonstration Tuesday.
UDD core leader and veteran politician Veera Musikapong said his 'Red Shirts' will gather at Sanam Luang at 9am Tuesday and plan to march on Government House an hour later, even though the prime minister will not be there.
The Cabinet is instead meeting at Hua Hin and inspecting the venue for the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) summit this weekend.
More than 3,000 police officers backed up by 33 companies of Army troops will be posted inside and around Government House starting from 6pm Monday, according to the police. Between 20,000-30,000 UDD demonstrators are expected to join the protest which is expected to last at least three days.
