Palin shuns spotlight to pick up the pieces

Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin (R) is uncharacteristically shunning the spotlight this week in an apparent effort to repair damage to her political stature back home.

Even though just about every big-name governor and leading conservative will be in Washington this week, the former vice presidential candidate skipped this weekend's National Governors Association meeting and will be absent from the Conservative Political Action Conference later this week.

After suffering through a rocky month back home she spent Friday in rural Alaska, providing state aid to rural communities hit hard by food and fuel shortages.

"To a certain extent, she's doing damage control in western Alaska," said Anchorage-based pollster Ivan Moore.

3. Probably shunning being shunned?
She probably knew she wouldn't be made that big a deal out of in this conference. Also the other governors have her number and she knows it. She thinks she's more important than the rest of them because she can see Russia from her house.

5. Possible interpretation: She is crawling back under that rock
McCain pulled her out from under.

At least I hope that is what it means, send her back to obscurity.

9. In all fairness, she did say for a short time..........
Lots of folks go to the cites for jobs or for an education.

...."Another purpose of the trip today, is not just delivering food for a short-term solution, but to remind those, especially young people, in rural Alaska of the job opportunities that are available, albeit it requires in some cases leaving the village for a short time."

10. They shouldn't have to leave at all

But bringing projects and industry to the villages is not a priority.
